Tuesday 13th- Saturday 17th August | 10:00 – 17:00 (plus 20:00 – 22:00 on Saturday 17th)

Mockumentaries are documentaries where the world and characters presented are exaggerated versions of reality.

Improv and mockumentaries have a long and storied history together. In fact, a free-wheeling improvisational style fits the tone of the form perfectly. Over the years, such improv luminaries as Christopher Guest, Eugene Levy, Amy Poehler and Steve Carell have all used their training to hilarious effect in mockumentary films and TV shows.

In this workshop, we’ll explore how to put them on stage. We’ll look at everything from the Christopher Guest cannon, through the US version of The Office and Parks & Recreation, to existing improv formats like The Documentary developed by Billy Merritt.

This course will help you develop the following improv skills: Characters, interview-style monologues, relationship, subtext, narrative, narration

This week-long intensive (Tuesday to Saturday) will culminate in a performance by the students on Saturday 17th August of the Mockumentary format where the topic is chosen by the audience!*

*If you want to do the course but you’re not sure about performing, you’re still welcome to join. Feel free to get in touch with Chris or the Bristol Improv Theatre beforehand if you have any questions.
