Become a Trustee of the Bristol Improv Theatre

We are looking for motivated and knowledgeable people to join our Board of Trustees.

Anyone is welcome to apply, however we are especially keen to hear from people whose identities or backgrounds are underrepresented in our organisation. In particular, we encourage applications from women; trans and non-binary people; people from Black, Asian, traveller, mixed heritage or
other global majority backgrounds; Disabled people; and people who are LGBTQ+.

Bristol Improv Theatre has recently become a registered charity (charity number: 1207613). We are looking to develop our board of Trustees as we continue to recover and rebuild from the pandemic, to develop a sustainable business model, and carry out our charitable mission – ‘to advance the arts for the public benefit, through the promotion of improvisational theatre’.

With the Board of Trustees’ help we intend to safeguard the future of the venue and develop a sustainable business model for the Bristol Improv Theatre. Our primary goals are to:

  • Maintain our values of inclusivity and equality, such as maintaining an inclusive space for the trans, LGBTQ+, and all underrepresented communities.
  • Enact our DEI action plan to diversify our programme which welcomes all, celebrates difference and actively seeks out new work and collaborators,
  • Reach a wider audience base with a new marketing strategy,
  • Build a cash reserve to shore up our organisation against future crises,
  • Develop a new fundraising strategy,
  • Continue to professionalise our operations and improve our working practices.

We’re especially keen to find people with experience in finance and accounting, fundraising and charity operations, Human Resources and Employment Law, access and inclusion, or website development and computer operating.

If you are interested in becoming a trustee for the Bristol Improv Theatre, please send your CV and cover letter to [email protected].

We will be conducting an initial round of trustee recruitment for the autumn, so we kindly ask that you submit these documents no later than October 1st, 2024. However, subject to availability, we will continue to consider applications on a rolling basis.

If you are interested in becoming a trustee after the autumn period, please still send your CV and cover letter to [email protected], though please bear in mind recruitment will be dependent on whether there are positions available.

Please note that this is a voluntary position.
