It’s Your Fantasy

We are super excited to welcome award winning writer, improviser and teacher Katy Schutte back to the Bristol Improv Theatre this summer with an intensive weekend workshop – Improvising Fantasy 5-6th July.

Having performed and taught improvisation in 30+ countries across five continents, her credentials are impressive so this is definitely a course you won’t want to miss.

Katy is a Head Teacher and Curriculum Writer for Hoopla, the UK’s biggest improv school and recently joined the Arvon creative writing teaching team. Katy authored The Improviser’s Way: A Longform Workbook, published by Nick Hern Books. She was one of The Maydays from 2004-2022, is half of sci-fi improv duo Project2 and performs with Yes Queens, Track 96, Brand New Musical and Hell Yeah! among others. She was an artist in residence for The Arctic Circle Project in 2022 and her cosmic horror play The Ice at the End of the World premiered at Omnibus Theatre for three weeks in 2024.

We asked her what you can expect on this weekend course:

“Well it’s improv of course, so expect the unexpected! But it’s a brilliant opportunity to develop your performance skills and explore themes from the world of fantasy adventure over two full days. Think monsters, creatures, characters, quests, traps, journeys and maps – and adventure. On the Sunday we put everything together into an improvised fantasy show with costumes, audience-inspired maps, fantasy characters, magical elements and exciting stories.

Over two days – 10am-5pm, 5-6th July you will work on developing your performance skills in this exciting genre. With the option to end the weekend on Sunday at 6pm sharing the format with an invited audience of family and friends.

This is a course for those with previous long-form or narrative improv experience – but no knowledge of the fantasy genre is necessary.

Places are selling fast – so book today to avoid disappointment!
