Read on to find out more!

GLOBAL MAJORITY IMPROV DROP-IN

Saturday 1st June, 12:00 – 14:00

This fun and friendly workshop for people from Global Majority backgrounds is open to all levels – you can be completely new to improv or looking to brush up on your basics and practise improv in a different context. Join instructors Aisha and Kierann to learn and practise improv skills and build your confidence in bringing your whole self to your improv practise, as well as building links with others. This workshop will run on the first Saturday of each month.

A GOOD SING

Thursday 6th June, 19:45 – 21:45

Come and join us for A Good Sing! This new singing group is led and accompanied by Ian Towers (musical director and pianist for This Is Your Musical). Come along to sing a range of music, including swing tunes, classic pop, songs from shows, a bit of gospel, a little folk music, and more! The sessions are open to all singing abilities, and you don’t need to be able to read music. There will also be an element of improvisation, delivered in a very safe accessible way.

ALL THE PAINTS IN THE BOX, WITH JIM FISHWICK

Friday 14th June, 10:00 – 13:00

Despite our best intentions, we sometimes find ourselves playing the same scenes, same characters, same games over and over again. All The Paints In The Box is a joyful approach to reignite curiosity, helping us shake off our creative cobwebs, identify the habits that have turned into patterns, and push out to the furthermost edges of what’s possible in improvisation. This workshop is aimed at people who are already comfortable acting and holding their own in improvised scenes. Plus, stick around after to see Jim perform in ‘The Saboteur’, a Traitors-inspired improv show!

IMPROV FOR FUN

Wednesday 19th June, 17:00 – 19:00

This is a session where you don’t need to worry about learning performance skills or progressing onto the next course – this is improv just for fun! This class is for all those people who are looking for a place to play, where you can connect with your inner-child and other like-minded individuals. Join Anna and Cat for an evening of guided improv exercises and games where you don’t have to worry about what comes next. All you need to do is turn up and be ready to play!

STAGE READY SHORT-FORM WITH GAMEZ

Saturday 22nd June, 14:00 – 17:00

Are you an improviser looking to take your short-form to the next level? Join GÄMEZ for a one-off, 3 hour workshop to improve your short-form skills, add some sparkle to your scenes, and help your performance fly! This workshop is perfect for people who: are keen to expand their improv toolkit; have previous experience performing improv; have played short-form improv before. Plus you can see GÄMEZ perform at the Antics Joke Show after the workshop!

MOCKUMENTARY NOW WITH CHRIS MEAD

Tuesday 13th – Saturday 17th August, 10:00 – 17:00 (Plus Saturday evening)

We are so excited to have our first ever summer schools here! The first is Mockumentary Now with Chris Mead. Improv and mockumentaries have a long and storied history together. In fact, a free-wheeling improvisational style fits the tone of the form perfectly. In this workshop, you’ll explore how to put them on stage. The course will culminate in an (optional) performance by the students!

A CAPELLA IMPROV INTENSIVE WITH LISA LYNN

Monday 19th August – Friday 23rd August, 11:00 – 17:00

On our second summer school, learn how to create musicals without instruments or planning! Join Lisa Lynn (director of Acaprov, the 5* improvised musical) for a week-long intensive to learn a cappella musical improv skills, bringing together beat-boxing, rap, body percussion, acting, dance, singing and improv. You can attend all or just selected days of this course. Students who attend all 5 days will be given an opportunity to perform at Acaprov’s show at the Bristol Improv Theatre on Friday 23rd August.
