Drop-Ins | Taster Sessions | The Improv Gym | Improv for Fun
If you're looking for a flexible way of learning with us at Bristol Improv Theatre, without the need to commit to regular weekly sessions, we have a range of regular classes that you can dip in and out of.
We're proud to provide a variety of ways to engage with our teaching for all ability levels. From complete beginners, looking to build their confidence or learn a new skill to experienced improvisers who want to expand their range and dive into new territories.
Our improv drop-ins are weekly sessions that focus on building up specific improv skills and practicing scenework to help you become a well-rounded improviser. They are an ideal way to engage with the Bristol Improv Theatre's classes if you aren't able to commit to a longer course but still want your improv fix!
Our drop-ins run every Monday evening and alternate between scene workshops and classes focused on specific skills to help you pad out your improvisers tool-kit.
These sessions are mixed ability but we do recommend that you have attended at least a Taster Session before coming to a drop-in.
Our Taster Sessions are the way to dip your toe into the world of improv if you're not sure where to start. These short sessions provide an introduction to improvisation that is gentle, welcoming, supportive and ultimately, a lot of fun!
Our instructors will guide you through various games and exercises throughout the afternoon that touch on some the fundamental skills of improvisation. You'll have the chance to get creative and practice being spontaneous whist connecting with others in the space.
These classes usually run on the last Saturday of every month from 2pm to 4pm. They are facilitated by either one or two of our experienced improv instructors and are capped at 20 places.
The Improv Gym is a facilitated space where YOU decide what skills you want to work on. Part rehearsal room, part personal improv training, this is a supported session where you can work on your skills and draw upon the expertise of our experienced teaching staff.
Our team will be on hand to warm you up, set you off with games and exercises based on your suggestions and they'll be there throughout the session to offer side coaching and notes, if you find it helpful. Each session lasts 3 hours and is capped at 8 places
Improv for Fun is for all those people who are looking for a place to play, where you can connect with your inner-child and other like-mined individuals.
This drop-in style session takes away the pressure of performing or improving your improv skills. It's a safe, held space where the only focus is having a great time!
These sessions have been developed by and are delivered by Cat Murphy and Anna Loyd Bradshaw in response to feedback from students who have attended our Taster Session and Discovering Improv course.
