Wednesday 28th January | 2pm – 4pm

(Arrival 1:45pm – Workshop 2pm – 3:30pm)

Do you catch yourself apologising all the time?

Do you get scared to speak up in meetings, at work or social situations?

Are you scared of being called, or have you ever been called, a ‘Difficult Woman?’

Using playing drama exercises and discussion,  we will explore some of the tools which can be used to help us build a Difficult Woman toolkit. In this taster class, we look at:

  • Taking up space
  • Amplifying the voices of other woman and oppressed groups
  • Saying no and respecting when others’ set their boundaries

Refreshments will be provided.

In the words of Audre Lorde:

‘Our speaking out will irritate some people, get us called bitchy or hypersensitive and disrupt some dinner parties. And then our speaking out will permit other women to speak, until laws are changed and lives are saved and the world is altered forever.

Next time, ask: What’s the worst that will happen? Then push yourself a little further than you dare. Once you start to speak, people will yell at you. They will interrupt you, put you down and suggest it’s personal. And the world won’t end.

And the speaking will get easier and easier. ‘

*Please note: We are using an inclusive definition of ‘woman’ and ‘female’.
This event is for all cis and trans women, as well as non-binary people who are comfortable in a space which centres the experience of women.

Places are capped at 20. No drama or improv experience is needed but please note that we will be using some improv drama games as part of the learning.
