Change lives through improv – join our Board of Trustees

Are you a strategic thinker who’s passionate about access to the arts? If so, Bristol Improv Theatre needs you on our Board.

As a Trustee, you will provide the vital oversight and guidance needed to ensure that Bristol’s home of improvised theatre rests on a rock-solid professional foundation. Acting as a director of The Bristol Improv Theatre Limited company, you’ll take legal responsibility for our charity’s governance and ensure we follow our charitable purpose for the public benefit.

Alongside the rest of the Board, you’ll meet four times a year to review the work of the charity and provide support, challenge, and advice to our Chief Executive Officer and leadership team. You’ll also attend an annual Strategy Away Day with our staff team and act as an ambassador for our fundraising and community.

We’re looking for people who:

  • Share our belief that the arts are for everyone and that laughter and play can improve wellbeing.
  • Are prepared to take responsibility for the Bristol Improv Theatre’s success.
  • Are willing and able to volunteer their time for quarterly meetings, an annual strategy day, and other support as appropriate.
  • Are prepared to support and challenge the BIT’s CEO and leadership team.
  • Have expertise in areas such as Finance, Fundraising, Law, or Business Development, or other skills to support our mission.

You don’t need previous experience as a Trustee; we are a learning organization, and training and onboarding will be provided. Please note that, like all charity Trusteeships, this is an unpaid volunteer role.

Inclusivity & Diversity
We believe that laughter and play are for everyone. To ensure our theatre remains the most welcoming venue in Bristol, we are looking for Trustees who bring diverse perspectives and lived experiences to our leadership. We encourage applications from people of colour, LGBTQ+ individuals, and those with disabilities.
