SUMMARY:Level 3: Performing Improv - Telling Stories
DESCRIPTION:23rd February – 6th April| Mondays | 18:30 – 21:00\nStories and storytelling are a fundamental part of the human experience. We shape the world around us into narratives that we can understand\, forming deep emotional connections to the tales that resonate with us. A keen improviser can play on this narrative instinct to craft engaging stories on the fly and leave a delighted audience asking ‘How did they do that!?’ \nThis seven-week course combines techniques inspired by legendary improviser Keith Johnstone and Pixar Animation Studios to equip students with a formidable toolkit of storytelling techniques and skills. From confidence and communication skills to knowing how to make bold choices to keep the story alive (or deliver a surprising twist ending)\, you’ll train the narrative instincts that will grab and sustain your audience’s interest. \nWho is this course for? \n\nStudents who have completed Discovering Improv & Intro to Performing Improv and want to take the next step\nPerformers who have some improv experience and want to develop their story skills \nWriters who want to explore a more spontaneous approach\nAnyone who has learned improv elsewhere and wants to start learning with the BIT school\n\n\n \n \n \n \nClass Details\nThis course consists of 7 sessions that last for 2.5 hours each\, and will be taught by two of our experienced facilitators. What show will unfold? Even they won’t know\, as they probe the audience and shine a neon light on the darkest\, weirdest seedlings of our minds. \nSecond Act – The Takeover Team\nThe Takeover Team is a mystery assortment of improvisers from the community who have assembled for just one show. That’s right\, just one show. Catch them while you can\, because if you miss them\, you’ll never get to see them again!\n\nGuest directed by Charlie Hutchence\nThird Act – Last Day on Earth\nThe first graduate house team of legendary improv night Parents’ Basement take a location from the audience and proceeds to take us on a journey through improvised sketch and character comedy.\n\nFeaturing performers from This Is Your Musical\, Up The Antics & After Dusk\, the improvised twilight zone\, Last Day on Earth have travelled all over the country with their chaotic\, hilarious comedic style and consistently delivers premium laughter. \n\n
