SUMMARY:‘The Mastery of Self Expression’ Taster Session
DESCRIPTION:Saturday 1st February | 10:00 – 12:45\nWednesday 26th February | 19:00 – 21:45\nThis event is run by an external organiser and is not part of the BIT’s regular Theatre School programme.  \n‘Take The Stage As Yourself.’ \nCome meet the facilitators and find out about this uniquely powerful workshop.  Equal parts performance masterclass and personal development course\, The Mastery of Self Expression is an intensive weekend workshop that will help you discover how to come deeply into relationship with yourself and your ‘audience’ – whether that’s formally on stage or informally in your everyday interactions. \nA thrilling and affecting experience\, The Mastery is not about technique but about a quality of presence – the ability to risk being authentically who you are in the presence of others.  It will help you grow your capacity for creative and spontaneous self-expression\, connecting you to your passions and enabling you to discover who you really are behind the ‘masks’ we all wear. \nCreated by producer Dan Fauci in 1977\, The Mastery was originally based on training actors but quickly passed into the public arena\, running continuously around the world since then; thousands of people from all walks of life have benefited from it.       \n‘Would highly recommend to all actors/improvisers and anyone who wants to get more and more comfortable with being their true selves on stage.’  – Mastery workshop participant \nPlease note: This is a Taster Session. The workshop itself will take place April 11-13th offsite in south Bristol.  For info:  Facebook MasteryBristol \nAlthough free\, booking is essential as places are limited. \n\n\nAbout the Instructor\nJan Castle\nJan is a highly experienced coach and facilitator\, the creator/co-creator of numerous self-development and creativity workshops including Live your Dream\, The Write Space\, Voicing your Purpose and The Space (follow-up to The Mastery). \nShe first became interested in our ability to create and ‘be’ without limitation when exploring the Art of The Fool with Frankie Anderson and Eastern spiritual traditions. \n“I am fascinated by the ‘edge’ I experience in myself and others\, the scary and thrilling frontier between the version of myself I think is acceptable to others\, and showing up fully in all my wonderful\, messy\, creative humanity.”

SUMMARY:CANCELLED - Giant Steps Present: Something from Nothing
DESCRIPTION:Saturday 1st February | 10:00 – 13:00 (CANCELLED)\nThis workshop has been cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances. Anyone who has booked a ticket to this event has been emailed. We apologise for any inconvenience or disappointment caused.  \nThis workshop is all about organic scenes. How do you start scenes when you’ve had no or minimal opening? How do you start scenes when you are on the backline and have no ideas? How do you take scenes from banal beginnings to something special? We’ll explore lots of techniques to make you feel more playful\, more erudite\, and more interesting on stage. Expect bespoke exercises you’ve never done before. A fresh perspective. And most importantly\, a really fun time.  \nMore about the class from the instructors: \nWe – Conor Jatter and Max Dickins (hi!) – draw inspiration from our diverse performance experiences. Expect tools from the worlds of not only improv and sketch\, but clown\, music\, storytelling\, and even experimental psychology to help you be the most interesting and free version of yourself on stage. We believe people are vessels filled with all sorts of amazing\, fascinating things. We’ll help you find that voice and pour it into your scenes. We believe that your and your scene partner’s presence in a scene is enough for it to be compelling. We’ll help you see more of what is already there. \nAnd\, again\, can’t emphasise this enough: it will be FUN. \n\n \n \n \n \nAbout the Instructors:\nCreated by Conor Jatter (The RH Experience) and Max Dickins (The Committee)\, Giant Steps is an improvised comedy show with a brilliant live band. Improvisation meets improvisation as hilarious improv comedians and virtuoso jazz musicians inspire each other in real time into leaps of comedy and creativity.  \nConor Jatter is a member of the RH Experience and one of the best regarded improvisers in the UK. The RH Experience have been performing live shows & producing sketches for 15 years and have featured on BBC One\, BBC Radio 4 & E4. Their YouTube videos have racked up over one million views. \nMax Dickins is a writer and performer\, for the stage\, page\, and screen. His last book\, Billy No Mates\, has been translated into multiple languages and is currently being adapted for television. As an improviser\, Dickins has appeared numerous times on BBC One’s Michael McIntyre’s Big Show. www.maxdickins.com
