SUMMARY:The Improv Gym
DESCRIPTION:Every Monday (from 24th July – 28th August) | 19:00 – 21:30\nImprove your improv!  \nIn your journey through improv\, it isn’t always about acquiring a new skill for your improviser’s toolkit or throwing yourself into a new and unfamiliar style of play. Sometimes you need to practise your existing skills\, polish up your play\, and get your reps in with some feedback/pointers and constructive critique from an expert. Enter the Improv Gym! \nPart rehearsal room\, part personal improv training\, the Improv Gym is a facilitated space where you can work on your skills and draw upon the expertise of our experienced teaching staff. Each session will be led by a Bristol Improv Theatre Instructor who will warm you up and set you going with exercises\, games\, and scenes that will work on the skill areas that you want to improve.  \nIf you have a particular skill or piece of work that you want to focus on\, let the instructor know and they’ll tailor your session accordingly. If you’re working on something with specialised equipment\, skills\, or knowledge – such as puppetry\, singing\, dance\, or any props/technical requirements – please email hello@improvtheatre.co.uk ahead of time so that we can prepare everything we’ll need to support you in the session. \nEach session lasts 2½ hours and is capped at 16 places. The bar will be open afterwards – why not stick around for a drink and a chat? \nThe Improv Gym is about improving the skills you want to work on – if you’re looking for something a bit more structured or just want to turn up and play\, why not try our Improv Drop-ins?

SUMMARY:Improv Drop-ins
DESCRIPTION:Mondays | 19:30 – 21:30\nLooking to stretch your improvising muscles? Then our drop-ins are for you! \nOur drop-ins run every Monday evening and alternate between scene workshops and classes focused on specific skills to help you pad out your improvisers tool-kit. \nDuring our scene workshops\, you’ll receive supportive and constructive side-coaching\, tailored to the group and designed to develop your confidence and improvisation skills. On the other hand\, the regular drop-ins will take a specific skill and explore it through games\, exercises and scenes. \nFacilitated by an experienced Bristol Improv Theatre instructor\, drop-ins are a great chance to try improv at Bristol Improv Theatre and connect with others. \nAny questions\, please don’t hesitate to get in touch at hello@improvtheatre.net. \nIf you are brand new to improv\, you may prefer to try the monthly Improv Taster Session. \nUpdate on Pricing \nFrom 8th May 2023\, we’re reducing the price of our drop-ins in order to make them more accessible during the cost of living crisis. We don’t want money to be a barrier to access so no-one will be turned away due to lack of funds. If you cannot attend an event due to financial barriers\, please feel free to turn up to attend the session or you can reserve a space by emailing us at hello@improvtheatre.net. Please note\, drop-in spaces are limited so we’d recommend reserving a space in advance.  \n(Please note that the new pricing cannot be applied retrospectively to tickets already purchased). \n\n\n

SUMMARY:My Father's Nose
DESCRIPTION:Thursday 27th July | 20:00 (Doors 19:30)\nAfter his execution\, Walter Raleigh’s widow carried his head around in a bag for thirty years. These days\, that sort of thing is frowned upon. My Father’s Nose is a new play about a recently bereaved man struggling to let go of the past. Literally. It’s a play about parents and children\, and how their relationships change over time. About how joy turns to grief\, and back again. About memory\, and how hard it can be to lose it\, and how hard it can be when you can’t. \nDouglas Walker returns to the Bristol Improv Theatre with his brand new play. Previous work includes improvising with Racing Minds\, Completely Wonderful\, Murder She Didn’t Write\, and his acclaimed Christmas show Of Christmas Past. \n “Exceptional…characters as self-assured as they are eloquent” The Skinny ★★★★ \nWith Support from The Thoroughgoods\nThe Thoroughgoods are a local improv group\, formed of graduates from the Bristol Improv Theatre. Their debut show Yesterday\, with Jean Thoroughgood tells the life story of the titular Jean—a tale that is epic\, comedic\, tragic and unpredictable. Much like the Thoroughgoods themselves!
