Where you should be looking? \nHave you been hosting or introducing a show and want to develop your technique? \nIn this class\, we will focus on the fundamentals of stage presence and delivery\, finetuning your ability to be warm\, relaxed and confident when interacting with a room full of people!\n \nKey skills explored: \n\nStage presence unpacked and translated into practicable tools\nPublic speaking \nBreathing and relaxation techniques for being grounded\nAudience warm-up and interaction \n\nIdeal for improvisers\, actors\, stand-up comedians or anyone looking to develop their public speaking and audience interaction skills. Suitable for all levels of experience.  \nWith over 12 years of experience in the performing arts\, Imo creates a safe and empowering classroom for all abilities to develop. \nInstructor Bio: \nImo Palmer is a theatre-maker\, improviser\, writer and teacher. She/they was the Theatre School Manager of The Bristol Improv Theatre 2019 –  2022 and is the Artistic Director of The Delight Collective\, creator of multiple shows including IMOGENÉ:the improvised pop concert (★★★★★ – DIVA Magazine)\, The Bish Bosh Bash (★★★★★ – Bristol 247) and International Women’s Day 2020 show ‘If These Walls Could Talk’. \n\nShe has 12+ years of experience as a facilitator and performer\, having trained with the world-leading Impro Melbourne and at Howard Fine’s Acting Studio (Melbourne). She’s performed improvised Shakespeare with Soothplayers (Melbourne International Comedy Festival\, Melbourne Fringe) as well performing improvised musicals\, fairytales\, horror\, Theatresports™ and Maestro™ with Impro Melbourne (Patti Stiles).  She has trained in Commedia Dell’arte and clowning with master teachers including Didi Hopkins (National Theatre)\, Fabio Mangolini (Cornucopia Performing Arts Labs)\, Deanna Fleysher (Naked Comedy Lab)\, Holly Stoppitt and Phil Burgers (Dr Brown).   \n  \nShe leads Bristol Improv Theatre’s applied improv offering for workplaces and has designed and delivered activities for clients including Law Firms\, Universities\, SMEs\, the NHS and the Civil Service. This work has been featured in the Sunday Times.  \n  \nImo is a HCPC registered Dramatherapist\, meaning she’s experienced in creating inclusive and empowering learning environments for all abilities.

DESCRIPTION:Wednesday 4th March | 9:30am – 4pm\n(Arrival at 9:15)\nDo you catch yourself apologising all the time? \n  \nAre you scared to speak up in meetings\, at work or social situations? \n  \nAre you scared of being called\, or have you ever been called ‘Difficult?’ \n  \nIn this one day workshop\, we embrace the term. Using a combination of discussion\, personal reflection\, improv games and exercises we explore and build a Difficult Woman toolkit to help us practice: \n  \n\nExpressing our views\nVocally supporting other women and oppressed groups\nThe art of not apologising for ourselves and making apologies matter\nOur relationship with the word ‘no’ and respecting when others set their boundaries\n\n\nIn the words of Audre Lorde: \n‘Our speaking out will irritate some people\, get us called bitchy or hypersensitive and disrupt some dinner parties. And then our speaking out will permit other women to speak\, until laws are changed and lives are saved and the world is altered forever. \nNext time\, ask: What’s the worst that will happen? Then push yourself a little further than you dare. Once you start to speak\, people will yell at you. They will interrupt you\, put you down and suggest it’s personal. And the world won’t end. \nAnd the speaking will get easier and easier. ‘\n\n*Please note: We are using an inclusive definition of ‘woman’ and ‘female’.\nThis event is for all cis and trans women\, as well as non-binary people who are comfortable in a space which centres the experience of women.  \n  \nThe topics will be explored with the supportive and non-judgmental facilitation of Imogen Palmer who will invite participants to engage in activities at their own pace and personally reflect on how they apply to their experiences\, informed by intersectionality. This is an exploratory course with a facilitator (who holds space for participants to discuss and explore in a supported environment) not a teacher (who imparts knowledge from a position of authority). \nAbout:\nImo Palmer is a theatre-maker\, improviser\, writer and teacher. She/they was the Theatre School Manager of The Bristol Improv Theatre 2019 –  2022 and is the Artistic Director of The Delight Collective\, creator of multiple shows including IMOGENÉ:the improvised pop concert (★★★★★ ‘ – DIVA Magazine)\, The Bish Bosh Bash (★★★★★ – Bristol 247) and International Women’s Day 2020 show ‘If These Walls Could Talk’. \n\nShe has 12+ years of experience as a facilitator and performer\, having trained with the world-leading Impro Melbourne and at Howard Fine’s Acting Studio (Melbourne).  She leads Bristol Improv Theatre’s applied improv offering and has designed and delivered activities for clients including Law Firms\, Universities\, SMEs and the Civil Service. This work has been featured in the Sunday Times.  \n  \nImo is a HCPC registered Dramatherapist\, meaning she’s experienced in creating inclusive and empowering learning environments for all abilities.
