What show will unfold? Even they won’t know\, as they probe the audience and shine a neon light on the darkest\, weirdest seedlings of our minds. \nSecond Act – The Takeover Team\nThe Takeover Team is a mystery assortment of improvisers from the community who have assembled for just one show. That’s right\, just one show. Catch them while you can\, because if you miss them\, you’ll never get to see them again!\n\nGuest directed by Charlie Hutchence\nThird Act – Last Day on Earth\nThe first graduate house team of legendary improv night Parents’ Basement take a location from the audience and proceeds to take us on a journey through improvised sketch and character comedy.\n\nFeaturing performers from This Is Your Musical\, Up The Antics & After Dusk\, the improvised twilight zone\, Last Day on Earth have travelled all over the country with their chaotic\, hilarious comedic style and consistently delivers premium laughter. \n\n

SUMMARY:Being a Difficult Woman* at Work: Full day Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday 4th March | 9:30am – 4pm\n(Arrival at 9:15)\nDo you catch yourself apologising all the time? \n  \nAre you scared to speak up in meetings\, at work or social situations? \n  \nAre you scared of being called\, or have you ever been called ‘Difficult?’ \n  \nIn this one day workshop\, we embrace the term. Using a combination of discussion\, personal reflection\, improv games and exercises we explore and build a Difficult Woman toolkit to help us practice: \n  \n\nExpressing our views\nVocally supporting other women and oppressed groups\nThe art of not apologising for ourselves and making apologies matter\nOur relationship with the word ‘no’ and respecting when others set their boundaries\n\n\nIn the words of Audre Lorde: \n‘Our speaking out will irritate some people\, get us called bitchy or hypersensitive and disrupt some dinner parties. And then our speaking out will permit other women to speak\, until laws are changed and lives are saved and the world is altered forever. \nNext time\, ask: What’s the worst that will happen? Then push yourself a little further than you dare. Once you start to speak\, people will yell at you. They will interrupt you\, put you down and suggest it’s personal. And the world won’t end. \nAnd the speaking will get easier and easier. ‘\n\n*Please note: We are using an inclusive definition of ‘woman’ and ‘female’.\nThis event is for all cis and trans women\, as well as non-binary people who are comfortable in a space which centres the experience of women.  \n  \nThe topics will be explored with the supportive and non-judgmental facilitation of Imogen Palmer who will invite participants to engage in activities at their own pace and personally reflect on how they apply to their experiences\, informed by intersectionality. This is an exploratory course with a facilitator (who holds space for participants to discuss and explore in a supported environment) not a teacher (who imparts knowledge from a position of authority). \nAbout:\nImo Palmer is a theatre-maker\, improviser\, writer and teacher. She/they was the Theatre School Manager of The Bristol Improv Theatre 2019 –  2022 and is the Artistic Director of The Delight Collective\, creator of multiple shows including IMOGENÉ:the improvised pop concert (★★★★★ ‘ – DIVA Magazine)\, The Bish Bosh Bash (★★★★★ – Bristol 247) and International Women’s Day 2020 show ‘If These Walls Could Talk’. \n\nShe has 12+ years of experience as a facilitator and performer\, having trained with the world-leading Impro Melbourne and at Howard Fine’s Acting Studio (Melbourne).  She leads Bristol Improv Theatre’s applied improv offering and has designed and delivered activities for clients including Law Firms\, Universities\, SMEs and the Civil Service. This work has been featured in the Sunday Times.  \n  \nImo is a HCPC registered Dramatherapist\, meaning she’s experienced in creating inclusive and empowering learning environments for all abilities.

SUMMARY:Introduction to Meisner Technique with Greg Shewring
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, 14th March | 10:00 – 17:00\n(7 Hours with a 1-hour break for lunch)\nThis one-day workshop offers an inviting and practical introduction to the Meisner Technique\, designed especially for performers\, improvisers\, and complete beginners who are curious about truthful\, moment-to-moment acting. Across the day\, participants will explore Meisner’s core principles — really doing\, active listening\, point of view\, and emotional preparation — through playful\, engaging exercises that encourage responsiveness\, connection\, and presence.  \n  \nRooted in Meisner’s emphasis on living truthfully under imaginary circumstances\, this workshop supports improvisers and actors alike in building stronger instincts\, deeper awareness of their scene partners\, and a bolder sense of emotional honesty. Expect a welcoming\, collaborative environment that celebrates curiosity\, experimentation\, and authentic human interaction — all in the spirit of the Bristol Improv Theatre’s community-focused ethos. \nAbout:\nGreg Shewring is a Meisner practitioner\, actor-trainer\, and theatre-maker whose work blends traditional Meisner training with contemporary approaches to actor learning. With a background in performance\, improvisation\, and pedagogical research\, Greg specialises in creating energetic\, supportive spaces where participants can explore truth\, connection\, and expressive freedom. His teaching draws on ongoing work in phenomenology and Vygotskian learning theory\, producing sessions that are both grounded in craft and alive with discovery. Greg has delivered workshops and training across the South West\, helping performers at all levels strengthen their presence\, responsiveness\, and creative confidence. \nThis is Greg’s first workshop at the BIT but he produced his first play way back in 2007 when the venue was the Polish Club! \nGreg has run Meisner workshops all over the region and is currently doing his PhD in the Meisner Technique at the University of Portsmouth.

SUMMARY:LGBTQ+ Improv Drop-In
DESCRIPTION:Saturdays | 14:00 – 16:00\n\nThis is a fun and friendly workshop led by LGBTQ+  instructors for people who are LGBTQ+\, and is open to all levels. You can be completely new to improv or looking to brush up on your basics and practise improv in a different context.  Sessions will focus on fun\, representing your own identity(ies) in improv\, and connecting with other improvisers. \nWhy are we running these workshops? \nWhilst we aim to be an LGBTQ+ friendly venue and believe that improv is an empowering artform for everyone\, we recognise that for many reasons – not least wanting to avoid stereotypes and prejudice – some people may not feel confident or even safe to be open about their LGBTQ+ identity in classes or when improvising. \nLGBTQ+ improvisers may worry about (or even have experienced) being judged\, misunderstood\, or stereotyped for their identity\, or they may be put off by heteronormative bias (the expectation that heterosexual desire and relationships and binary gender are the default) in improvised scenes. \nThe aim of these workshops is to build community and increase visibility\, and make space for LGBTQ+ stories and experience in improv. This workshop will create a space that allows people to practise bringing their lived experience into their improvisation\, as part of a supportive community. \nA note on the term “LGBTQ+”: \nThe Bristol Improv Theatre uses the term LGBTQ+ as an umbrella term for sexuality and gender identities outside of heterosexuality and the gender binary. The LGBTQ stands for: Lesbian\, Gay\, Bisexual\, Transgender and Queer. The “+” is there to encompass other sexualities and gender identities\, for example asexual\, pansexual\, intersex or non-binary. \nYou will not be expected to disclose how you identify as LGBTQ+ when you join the class – unless you want to! \nTo book your ticket\, simply choose your preferred date below.\n——— \nTicket sales have been moved to our new events site!\nClick here to buy tickets!\n———

SUMMARY:Breathwork for Stress Release - Free Session
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, 19 March 2026 | 18:00 – 19:30\nCome and join us for a FREE Conscious Connected Breathwork session to alleviate the stress and tension that arises from modern\, busy lives. \nIn collaboration with Becky and Suki from Culture Kick Ltd\, we are excited to be hosting a FREE Conscious Connected Breathwork session to encourage more people to try what is an impactful and energising practice. \nWhat is Conscious Connected Breathwork? \nA unique style of breathwork using a deep\, circular mouth-in\, mouth-out pattern\, staying consciously engaged with each inhale and exhale. Sessions are facilitator-led in music-guided rounds with breath retentions. This empowering session will finish with a guided themed visualisation while people relax deeply. \nWhat are the benefits? \nModern life is busy and often overwhelming. Breathwork offers a chance to pause\, reconnect with your body\, and release tension\, stored emotions\, or stagnant energy\, leaving you feeling physically and emotionally lighter. It can help you feel more resilient\, with greater capacity\, clarity\, focus\, and calm\, both at work and at home. Over time\, it also supports a deeper connection with yourself and strengthens your sense of self-trust and self-leadership. \nWhat is the structure of the session? \nThe session begins with a brief introduction to Conscious Connected Breathing\, a demonstration of the pattern\, and time for questions. You’ll then get comfortable lying down with eyes closed\, followed by a short grounding exercise. Then move into 2–3 rounds of breathing to music\, with optional guided breath retentions and finish with a guided visualisation and reading while you relax deeply to music.  \nWhat do I need for the session? \nYou’ll need to lie down\, so bring a yoga mat or something similar\, plus anything that helps you feel comfortable – pillows\, a blanket\, and comfortable\, non-restrictive clothing. Have some water on hand and come with an open mind.  \nThis style of breathwork is for adults aged 18 and over only. \nBreathwork can result in intense physical\, emotional\, and energetic release. Therefore\, it is not advised for individuals with any of the following conditions: \n\nCardiovascular conditions\, including angina\, previous heart attacks\, or pacemakers\nHigh blood pressure\nGlaucoma or retinal detachment\nEpilepsy or seizure disorders\nA personal or family history of aneurysms\nSevere or chronic mental health conditions (unless with prior Dr approval)\nOsteoporosis or any condition exacerbated by intense movement or breathing\nRecent major surgeries or physical injuries\nCurrently taking major medications that impair physical or emotional regulation\nPregnant women are advised not to do this form of breathwork without first consulting and receiving approval from Dr.\nIndividuals with asthma should consult with their Dr and inform the breathwork facilitator before participating. Inhalers must be brought to the session.
