SUMMARY:‘Improv and Intimacy’ with Lucy Fennell
DESCRIPTION:25th October – 26th October (Two day intensive) | 10:00 – 17:00\nThe way we rehearse and stage scripted scenes of intimacy has been revolutionised by the advent of Intimacy Direction; championing consent\, open communication and carefully negotiated choreography. \nBut where does this leave the intimacy found in improvisation? How can performers possibly gain enthusiastic consent when the action is spontaneous? What measures can an improv group take to instil safer practices in their rehearsals and performance and to elevate the way they use physical and emotional intimacy to tell stories? \n  \nOver the weekend we will use discussion\, exercises and teacher lead learning to explore the five ‘pillars of intimacy’ and how they interact with improvisation\, as well as how we can use them to confidently and safely navigate the use of both physical and emotional intimacy in our improv. \n  \nThis course is invaluable for improvisers as well as directors and teachers of improv and will cover: \n  \n\n    Ways that improvised theatre is being influenced and supported by the field of professional intimacy direction.\n    Exercises to develop safe improvisation of scenes of intimacy in its many forms.\n    The ways language can be adjusted to open up dialogue around consent in scenes that include intimacy.\n    Exercises to open the way for individuals and groups to safely use physical intimacy to tell stories.\n    Strategies that allow improvisers to separate the personal from the performance\, and increase resilience by practicing self care.\n\n\n \n \n \n \n  \nAbout the instructor:\nLucy is an improviser\, intimacy director for stage and intimacy coordinator for TV. She gained her accreditation with Intimacy for Stage and Screen and has gone on to work across networks including Netflix\, HBO\, Disney\, Apple and the BBC\, with shows including Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story\, True Detective: Night Country and Toxic Town. Most recent intimacy direction work includes Visit from an Unknown Woman at Hampstead Theatre\, and All’s Well That Ends Well at The Globe. \nLucy is a qualified teacher and instructs in intimacy practice at drama schools including Arts Ed\, Trinity Laban and Guildhall. \nShe is a founding member of Impromptu Shakespeare and as well as improvisation\, Lucy has trained in Lecoq\, clowning and bouffon.  \n  \nLucy is interested in cultivating authentic\, candid improvised performance and is committed to creating a nurturing\, open space for participants to discover\, learn and be inspired.

SUMMARY:Tasklord
DESCRIPTION:Saturday 18th October | 19:30 – 21:30\n(Doors open 19:00)\n  \n5 improvisers\, a series of ridiculous tasks and 1 almighty Tasklord to judge them all. \n  \nTasklord is a live comedy show that brings together some of the most inventive and quick-thinking performers from the local improv scene to take on a range of unusual and entertaining challenges. Expect an evening of creativity\, competition\, and spontaneous fun. \n  \nEach contestant must approach the tasks in their own unique way\, relying on their wit\, imagination\, and spontaneity to outdo their fellow competitors in both pre-prepared tasks and entirely unexpected live tasks in the theatre. Points will be awarded for creativity\, ingenuity\, and sheer audacity – but fairness is not guaranteed\, and the Tasklord’s decisions are final. \n  \nWhether you’re a fan of improv\, a lover of live comedy\, or just curious to see what happens when performers are thrown into unpredictable situations\, Tasklord offers a warm\, funny\, and entertaining view into the minds of these performers. Come for the chaos\, stay for the comedy.

SUMMARY:Tales From The Wasteland: Post-Apocalyptic Improv
DESCRIPTION:Saturday 20th September | 20:00 – 22:00\n(Doors open 19:30)\nTales From The Wasteland is an improvised post-apocalyptic adventure comedy. This twisted and talented cast of wastelanders will take a single suggestion from you and craft an entire narrative show with no pre-prepared characters\, story or dialogue. \nIf the world was ending\, what would be the one thing you’d want to survive? Join us as we explore a new world and find out what’s left over after Earth’s devastation. Expect raiders\, mutants and violence over scarce resources in this absurd dark comedy inspired by classics of the genre such as Mad Max\, The Last of Us and Fallout. \nWarning: this show tends to have dark themes\, violence and cannibalism. Seriously\, cannibalism comes up way too often. \n“They have the audience in stitches\, thanks to sharp timing and an ability to spin chaos into comedy.” – Bristol 24/7 \n“Their world-building is bewitching; conjuring a violent\, gory Mad Max vibe alongside whimsical and\, somehow\, endearing characters.” – The Everyday Magazine \nWITH SUPPORT FROM: I Don’t Know What You’ll Do This Summer\nThis summer\, a group of friends set out on the trip of their lives. But all is not well as a mysterious and yet to be determined force puts them all in peril. \nWill they blindly ignore sensible warnings from strangers in petrol stations? Why can’t they just use their phones to get help? How could anyone think this is worth a direct-to-DVD sequel? \nSee how it all goes wrong for our characters and their friendships. \nA comedy inspired by teen horror films from the 90’s and 00’s.
