SUMMARY:The Antics Joke Show ft. HOOKED
DESCRIPTION:Saturday 25th November | 20:00 (19:30 doors)\nUp The Antics present their hit monthly night of comedy variety. Including sketches\, stand-up\, and improv\, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. This month’s special guests are social media stars HOOKED!  \nSKETCH COMEDY From HOOKED\nHolly and Brooke are ‘Hooked’ on each other. Sketch and character comedians\, their sketches lambaste\, satirize and celebrate all the fruits in the bowl of life.   \nHooked are hot off their Edinburgh Fringe debut\, ‘Mr Sister’ – in which they received 5 Stars from The British Theatre Guide and were named The Evening Standard’s Top 12 Rising Comedians.  \nHolly and Brooke have 60k followers\, 15 million views & 2 million likes on TikTok and 6k growing followers on Instagram and are all-round legends. \nIMPROV from UP THE ANTICS \nBristol-based Up The Antics (as heard on BBC Radio 4) take us down the rabbit hole of improvised sketch comedy. With the suggestion of a location\, the antics will explore the characters and journeys taken to arrive there\, with hilarious results. \n‘Brilliantly witty’ ★★★★★ Inter:Mission  \n‘Up The Antics are guaranteed to deliver a laugh every minute’ ★★★★ EdFringeReview  \nPlus STAND-UP from: \nLYNSEY HALL \nLynsey Hall is a Bristol-dwelling\, Scottish comedian with a silly\, surreal style. In a previous life she did science comedy\, but aged 29 her immune system threw a wobbler. Now she leads a funny little life trying to avoid death. But an extrovert cannot be contained! So after 5 years out of the game – she’s back\, armed with tall tales! Scatty\, wacky\, and full of nonsense. \nMC – MILLIE MALONE \nThe ‘people’s princess of Bristol comedy’\, Millie Malone is a rising star on the scene. Bringing a unique voice that is as morally dubious as it is flirty and charming\, watching her is like being chatted up and held at knifepoint all at once. Her surreal and punchline heavy sets have taken her to the Edinburgh Fringe\, BBC radio and some of the most renowned clubs in the UK. \n\n\n

SUMMARY:American Longform Night
DESCRIPTION:Friday 24th November | 20:00 (doors 19:30)\nJoin us for an evening of American Longform\, featuring three of the best longform groups in Bristol doing three completely different formats in one amazing night. \nJazz Police \nAmerican-style longform improv comedy troupe from Bristol. Having performed at the Edinburgh International Improv Festival and the Birmingham Comedy Festival\, explore the world of improv through a hilarious compilation of scenes and bits as these masters of wit take one word and turn it into a show. \n‘Damn near perfect improv’ – The Glasgow Improv Theatre \nThe Groundhogs \nThe Groundhogs – Performers and students from Bristol’s Longform improv community join forces to perform The Detour format; an exploration of all the possible ways that a single scene could have gone…but didn’t. \nArmando House Team\nThe House Armando Team is a loose name for the collection of improvisers who come together when the Improv Theatre needs them most\, and performs the hilarious armando format!  \nOriginated by Armando Diaz\, this format takes its inspiration from an improvised monologue usually given by a guest. Often a stand-up comic or an expert in a given field will give the monologue\, and then the improvisers will take “premises” or elements from the monologue to inspire a series of improvised sketches and scenes  \nOne of the most famous examples is UCB’s ASSSSSCAT shows\, which you can watch on YouTube. They’re hilarious and you’ll probably recognise a lot of actors albeit quite a lot younger

SUMMARY:Fundamentals of Stupidity with Britt Pay (CANCELLED)
DESCRIPTION:Saturday 18th November | 11:00 – 17:00\nUnfortunately\, this workshop has been cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances. We have gotten in touch with all ticket holders\, and we apologise for any disappointment caused.\nStuck for clever things to say on stage? More importantly\, do you think fart jokes are funny? We’ll explore performance that is unashamedly silly; celebrating moments where everyone is laughing\, even if no-one knows why. \nDrawing on traditions of clowning\, we’ll emphasise the power of simple gestures\, responsiveness to your scene partner and developing scenes intuitively. This course will focus on making sure that everyone is having fun and being generous on stage\, while creative ideas flow.  \nWe’ll cover: \nGetting stupid: Becoming fearlessly silly to free up creativity.  \nNonverbal: Learn to communicate & perform intuitively with your face and body and learn not to rely on words.   \nFinding your funny: What makes you tickle? Learn how to lean into your unique type of funny.  \nWorking Together: Focusing on being generous and collaborative while performing. \nPlease note\, this course is recommended for improvisers with some performing experience and is not suitable for beginners. We’d recommend that you have taken at least one of our Performing Improv Level 1 courses\, or equivalent\, before signing up to this course. \n\n \n \n \n \nAbout the Instructor\nBritt is a comedian and performer who has been improvising for nine years. She performs with The Descendants\, Taco Cat and Juice Improv. She’s an experienced improv teacher\, having taught for the biggest improv company in the UK\, Hoopla Impro. \nTestimonials\nBritt is a brilliant teacher: knowledgeable\, hilarious\, confident without being overzealous\, and a strong leader. I also enjoyed all the games and meeting beaut people. Britt is so lovely and inclusive. \nOne of the most enjoyable improv classes I’ve ever done. Britt creates a fun and gentle atmosphere which is the best environment for playing and enjoying improv

SUMMARY:‘Mastery of Self Expression’ Taster
DESCRIPTION:Saturday 18th November | 10:00am – 12:45pm\nCome meet the facilitators and find out about this uniquely powerful workshop.  Equal parts performance masterclass and personal development course\, The Mastery of Self Expression is an intensive weekend workshop that will help you discover how to come deeply into relationship with yourself and your ‘audience’ – whether that’s formally on stage or informally in your everyday interactions. \nA thrilling and stretching experience\, The Mastery is not about technique but about a quality of presence – the ability to risk being authentically who you are in the presence of others.  It offers you an experience of your own capacity for creative and spontaneous self-expression\, connecting you to your passions and enabling you to discover who you really are behind the ‘masks’ we all wear. \nCreated by Dan Fauci in 1977\, The Mastery was originally based on training actors but quickly passed into the public arena\, running continuously around the world since then; thousands of people from all walks of life have benefited from it.       \n‘Would highly recommend to all actors/improvisers and anyone who wants to get more and more comfortable with being their true selves on stage.’  – Mastery workshop participant. \nThis event is a Taster session for The Mastery of Self Expression workshop which takes place in Southville\, Bristol over a long weekend from Feb 16-18th\nFor all queries not related to the venue\, please contact jancastleuk@hotmail.com. \n\n\nAbout the Instructor\n \nJan Castle\nJan is a highly experienced coach and facilitator\, the creator/co-creator of numerous self-development and creativity workshops including Live your Dream\, The Write Space\, Voicing your Purpose and The Space (follow-up to The Mastery). \nShe first became interested in our ability to create and ‘be’ without limitation when exploring the Art of The Fool with Frankie Anderson and Eastern spiritual traditions. \n“I am fascinated by the ‘edge’ I experience in myself and others\, the scary and thrilling frontier between the version of myself I think is acceptable to others\, and showing up fully in all my wonderful\, messy\, creative humanity.”

SUMMARY:The Antics Joke Show Ft. After Dusk
DESCRIPTION:Saturday 21st October | 20:00 (Doors 19:30)\nUp The Antics present a special spooky edition of their hit monthly show of comedy variety\, the Antics Joke Show! A frightfully funny night of comedy awaits featuring special guests After Dusk: The Improvised Twilight Zone \nIMPROV From AFTER DUSK: THE IMPROVISED TWILIGHT ZONE \nFiled mistakenly under E for Mystery: unscripted episodes of the television anthology known as The Twilight Zone. An award winning improvised parody of the 1960s cult classic that inspired Black Mirror. Every show features two unique episodes based on audience suggestions and accompanied by our live violinist. Join us as we cross into a realm adjacent to\, but legally distinct from\, The Twilight Zone. \n‘a beautiful demonstration of everything that improvised performance can be’ ★★★★★ ( The Reviews Hub). \nSKETCH from UP THE ANTICS  \nCome into Up The Antics’ (BBC Radio 4 Extra) haunted house of sketches. With terrifying hilarious scenarios\, creepy (in a safe-space compliant way) characters and a whole lot of skeletons in their comedy closet\, this won’t be a set to miss!  \n‘Brilliantly witty’ ★★★★★ Inter:Mission  \n‘Up The Antics are guaranteed to deliver a laugh every minute’ ★★★★ EdFringeReview  \nSTAND-UP from BURT WILLIAMSON \nAt once silly and serious\, smart and stupid Burt packs dense punchlines with goofy charm to great comedic effect. At the forefront of a new and exciting generation of comics emerging from Bristol\, Burt leads the charge on a new wave of talent in British comedy. \n‘The funniest\, most unlikely\, rudest yet sweetest’ **** – Entertainment Now\n“Absurd and excellent” – Rife magazine \nMC: MILLIE MALONE \nThe ‘people’s princess of Bristol comedy’\, Millie Malone is a rising star on the scene.

SUMMARY:Artificial Intelligence Improvisation
DESCRIPTION:Friday 13th October | 20:00\nSince 2016\, award-winning Improbotics has brought robots to stages worldwide! They are now back from Edinburgh Fringe 2023 at the Gilded Balloon. In this brand new science comedy show\, improvisers must keep up as state-of-the-art artificial intelligence takes over! Improvisers are controlled by AI chatbots: the result is an unpredictable work of human-machine hilarity.\n \n★★★★★ (TheatreAndTonic.co.uk\, 2023). \n‘Excellent’ ★★★★ (Everything-Theatre.co.uk\, 2023).  \n‘Groundbreaking work’\, ‘high quality comedy theatre’\, ‘raises important philosophical questions’ (FringeReview.co.uk\, 2022).  \n★★★★ (BingeFringe.com\, 2020).  \nImprobotics was founded by research scientists in AI and award-winning improvisers\, and featured\, among others\, in the New York Times\, Financial Times\, New Scientist\, and on the BBC and RTE One. \nWith Support from Waiting for Robo(t)\nIn the fast-paced modern world of automation and AI assistants\, it’s an increasingly common worry that a robot might one day replace you and make you obsolete. \nBut what if it’s already happening? What if your colleagues\, friends\, family – even yourself – have already been replaced by synthetic imitators? \nWell\, worry no more! GC Industries is proud to present this live demonstration of their groundbreaking Voight-Kampff test. Sit back and watch as our trained interrogator puts an unsuspecting suspect under the spotlight and finds out whether they’re as human as they claim to be. \nFrom the joyful idiots that brought you Steves and Wooster and Holy Unauthorised Improv Parody\, Batman! comes a new show inspired by that one bit from the beginning of Blade Runner.

SUMMARY:The Improv Gym
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday 11th October | 19:00 – 21:30\nThe Improv Gym will be returning in the New Year!\nImprove your improv!  \nIn your journey through improv\, it isn’t always about acquiring a new skill for your improviser’s toolkit or throwing yourself into a new and unfamiliar style of play. Sometimes you need to practise your existing skills\, polish up your play\, and get your reps in with some feedback/pointers and constructive critique from an expert. Enter the Improv Gym! \nPart rehearsal room\, part personal improv training\, the Improv Gym is a facilitated space where you can work on your skills and draw upon the expertise of our experienced teaching staff. Each session will be led by a Bristol Improv Theatre Instructor who will warm you up and set you going with exercises\, games\, and scenes that will work on the skill areas that you want to improve.  \nIf you have a particular skill or piece of work that you want to focus on\, let the instructor know and they’ll tailor your session accordingly. If you’re working on something with specialised equipment\, skills\, or knowledge – such as puppetry\, singing\, dance\, or any props/technical requirements – please email hello@improvtheatre.co.uk ahead of time so that we can prepare everything we’ll need to support you in the session. \nEach session lasts 2½ hours and is capped at 16 places. The bar will be open afterwards – why not stick around for a drink and a chat? \nThe Improv Gym is about improving the skills you want to work on – if you’re looking for something a bit more structured or just want to turn up and play\, why not try our Improv Drop-ins?
