SUMMARY:David Elms Describes A Room
DESCRIPTION:Friday 11th July | 20:00 – 22:00\n(Doors open 19:30)\nFOLLOWING A SOLD-OUT LONDON RUN\, COMEDIAN DAVID ELMS BRINGS HIS CULT HIT SHOW DAVID ELMS DESCRIBES A ROOM TO BRISTOL. \nIt’s a playful collective experience! \nDavid Elms Describes A Room is a one-hour-long improvised show. In the show\, veteran improviser David leads the audience through the game of building a room together as a collective. The objects in the room\, the stories behind the objects\, the person behind the stories. It’s different every time! \nThe show ran monthly at The Free Association from May 2022 to January 2025 and now travels to venues around the UK and beyond\, most recently selling out a 5-night run at Soho Theatre. \n“David’s very clever. He’s made a show that’s funny\, original and different every time… You go there and bathe in it and try not to be jealous you didn’t think of it.” – Tim Key \n“David builds a comedy mind palace before your very eyes. And you’ll want to move in for good!” – Phil Wang \n“Imaginative\, soothing and gently immersive storytelling – the ASMR of improv” – Rose Matafeo   \n“Where improv can often feel disposable or incidental\, Elms’ rooms are built to last” – Chortle \nSupport from: ‘Empty Calories’ \nEmpty Calories is a two-woman improv comedy duo featuring seasoned Bristol performers Lilly Dawson and Paige Tummons. With playful chemistry and quick character work\, they create fully improvised shows that dive into the everyday chaos of friendship\, work\, and identity — all with a healthy dose of absurdity. \nFast-paced\, relatable\, and never the same twice\, Empty Calories proves that nothing tastes as good as silly feels.

SUMMARY:Performing Improv Level 1: Making a Scene
DESCRIPTION:21st July – 1st September | Mondays | 19:00 – 21:30\nPeople often start their journeys into improvisation by rediscovering the joys of play – there’s a pure and deeply human delight that we can get from messing around together and being silly! But how do you go from playing with each other for your own delight to entertaining an audience with fully-fledged improvised comedy and drama? \nThis seven-week course aims to equip you with the tools you need to take your improvisation to the stage by creating spontaneous and compelling scenes. You’ll explore how to make bold choices that drive a scene forward or give it a strong start\, how to build a shared world for your scene using basic mime and space-work\, and the essential ingredients that make a scene come together (or fall apart without them).  \nWho is this course for? \n\nStudents who have completed Discovering Improv & Intro to Performing Improv and want to take the next step\nPerformers who have some improv experience and want to develop their improvised scene work skills \nAnyone who has learned improv elsewhere and wants to start learning with the BIT school\n\n\n \n \n \n \nClass Details\nThis course consists of 7 sessions that last for 2.5 hours each\, and will be taught by two of our experienced facilitators. Places are capped at 12. Like all our Performing Improv courses\, the 7th week includes a showcase performance to a supportive audience of friends\, family\, and fellow students.

SUMMARY:Unscripted Players Summer Reunion Double Bill: Head Talks and I Don't Know What You'll Do This Summer
DESCRIPTION:Friday 15th August | 20:00 – 22:00\n(Doors open 19:30)\n  \nThey’re back! Two fantastic shows spun out from the Bristol Improv Theatre’s own Unscripted Players\, the UK’s first am-dram company dedicated to improv\, return to our stage this summer… \n  \nIn a very special one-off Double Bill audiences will have a second chance to watch Head Talks and I Don’t Know What You Did Last Summer. First performed in our Summer 2024 season and now further developed and returning after features at venues such as Cloak and the People’s Republic of Stokes Croft (Improv Spotlight). \n  \nThink you’ve seen it all before? You’d be wrong… with completely made-up experts flung into chaos by unseen presentations and a group of friends battling comedically to survive an undetermined force\, this is a reunion you don’t want to miss! \n  \nHead Talks \nTake your seats for a TED-style talk like you’ve never seen before (and will never see again). This is HEAD -Talks. \n  \nAn esteemed panel of ‘experts’ are tasked to give presentations on any topic imaginable – from life-changing experiences to ground-breaking discoveries to a new invention that’s set to change the world. The only thing is… they haven’t seen the accompanying slide-show before… \n  \nCome and watch as the world’s brightest minds do battle with surprising slides. They’ll grapple with goofy graphs\, stumble over stupendous stock-images and get taken aback by tricksome texts. Accompanied by a charming but devious host\, HEAD-Talks is sure to be a show full of hilarity (but perhaps less full of facts!). \n  \nI Don’t Know What You’ll Do This Summer \nThis summer a group of friends set out on the trip of their lives. But all is not well as a mysterious and yet to be determined force puts them all in peril. \n  \nWill they blindly ignore sensible warnings from strangers in petrol stations? Why can’t they just use their phones to get help? How could anyone think this is worth a direct to dvd sequel? \n  \nSee how it all goes wrong for our characters and their friendships. \n  \nA comedy inspired by teen horror films from the 90’s and 00’s. \n  \n Unscripted Players \nThe Unscripted Players is the UK’s first am-dram company dedicated to improvised theatre. The group was created to give everyone the opportunity to experience the fabulous and rapidly growing art form that is improv. We aim to provide a supportive and creative environment where total newbies and old-hands alike have the chance to improvise and perform! And it’s completely free to join! Click  here to find out more and sign up.
