SUMMARY:My Father's Nose
DESCRIPTION:Thursday 27th July | 20:00 (Doors 19:30)\nAfter his execution\, Walter Raleigh’s widow carried his head around in a bag for thirty years. These days\, that sort of thing is frowned upon. My Father’s Nose is a new play about a recently bereaved man struggling to let go of the past. Literally. It’s a play about parents and children\, and how their relationships change over time. About how joy turns to grief\, and back again. About memory\, and how hard it can be to lose it\, and how hard it can be when you can’t. \nDouglas Walker returns to the Bristol Improv Theatre with his brand new play. Previous work includes improvising with Racing Minds\, Completely Wonderful\, Murder She Didn’t Write\, and his acclaimed Christmas show Of Christmas Past. \n “Exceptional…characters as self-assured as they are eloquent” The Skinny ★★★★ \nWith Support from The Thoroughgoods\nThe Thoroughgoods are a local improv group\, formed of graduates from the Bristol Improv Theatre. Their debut show Yesterday\, with Jean Thoroughgood tells the life story of the titular Jean—a tale that is epic\, comedic\, tragic and unpredictable. Much like the Thoroughgoods themselves!

SUMMARY:BBFC Presents: THE DRAGON LIVES AGAIN (1977)
DESCRIPTION:Thursday 20th July | 20:00\nOn the 50th anniversary of Bruce Lee’s death\, we screen one of the strangest Bruceploitation films to ever have been made \nWhen Bruce Lee died in 1973\, the Hong Kong film industry wasn’t about to let the legendary screen hero disappear from the public consciousness\, especially after the worldwide success of Enter The Dragon (1973). They hit upon the idea of creating films using actors that looked slightly like Bruce and could imitate his style and movements and the Bruceploitation genre was born. \nOver the next few years\, scores of films were made that took aspects of Bruce’s life that made the front of the local tabloids and fictionalised it. Under-whelming sequels were made to his original films\, but with demand for Bruce Lee content coming from all over the world\, producers leaned into the Bruceploitation genre and made stars of the likes of Bruce Le\, Bruce Li\, Dragon Lee and even Jackie Chan\, who appeared in New Fist of Fury. \nHowever\, few Bruceploitation films are as bizarre as The Dragon Lives Again. \nThe multiverse has never been filled with this much madness. Easily one of the most unhinged and surreal martial arts spectacles to ever escape from Hong Kong\, The Dragon Lives Again finds the spirit of Bruce Lee (Bruce Leung Siu-lung) battling through the Underworld against Dracula\, James Bond\, The Godfather\, “The Exorcist\,” Emmanuelle\, some mummies\, and more. But he’s not alone! \nAlong the way\, Bruce befriends the One-Armed Swordsman\, Caine from the TV show Kung Fu\, and last but not least\, Popeye the Sailor. \nPreviously only available via crusty bootlegs\, THE DRAGON LIVES AGAIN has been preserved in 2K from AGFA’s 35mm print—the only known print in this universe\, or any other. \nWATCH THE TRAILER > \nIn order to make the event as accessible to as many people as possible\, the main feature will be subtitled. \n“The Dragon Lives Again will probably annoy enthusiasts of martial arts films and the diehard fans of Bruce Lee\, but it will provide endless amusement for those who enjoy watching crazy films while filling their systems with endless mugs of beer or puffs of weed.” – Film Threat \n“Any review could not fully capture what is in essence something that has to be seen to be believed as the words “Only in this film” can be used with confidence here.” – Grindhouse Database \nThis film and event is certified ‘18′. \nAll tickets : £5 (All profits will go to Bristol Soup Run Trust)

SUMMARY:Improv and Physicality with Caitlin Campbell
DESCRIPTION:Saturday 15th July – Sunday 16th July | 10:00 – 17:00 (with 1 hour break)\nAn improv scene doesn’t start with the first line; in fact it doesn’t even need to have a first line. Improvisers can tell a whole story to their audience without ever opening their mouths. In this course we’ll explore how space\, mime and gesture can bring richness and authenticity to improvised scenes. Unlocking these worlds will give improvisers new tools for play and comedy\, but also a greater capacity to create profundity and poignancy in their work.  \nCombining exercises inspired by the pedagogy of L’Ecole Internationale Jacques Lecoq and over a decade of teaching and performing improvised theatre shows\, Caitlin’s workshop will have her usual focus on listening\, detail\, and having outrageous amounts of fun. \nExperience Level: Improvisors with a decent level of experience looking to expand their tool kit. \n\n \n \n \n \nAbout the Instructor \nCaitlin is a theatre-maker\, actor and teacher currently based in Paris. Since discovering improv at university in 2011 she spent the next decade as a confirmed improv addict\, performing and co-creating shows with Murder\, She Didn’t Write\, The Adventures of the Improvised Sherlock Holmes\, This Is Your Musical\, The Bish Bosh Bash\, Screwball!\, Completely Wonderful and the Bristol Improv Marathons\, among others. Improv has taken her all over the world; from performing in a circus tent in Australia\, teaching and co-directing in Korea and being rained on for nine years at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. She is a co-founder and former Artistic Director of the Bristol Improv Theatre\, and taught and developed courses there as a senior instructor for eight years. Her acting and devising credits include The Rocky Shock and Drac & Jill\, both Wardrobe Theatre. \nShe is currently studying physical theatre at the Ecole Internationale de Theatre Jacques Lecoq in Paris. \nClass Details\nThis weekend intensive is capped at 18 participants. \nIf you have any accommodations or access needs\, questions\, feedback or concerns about the classes\, please don’t hesitate to get in touch at hello@improvtheatre.net.

Places are limited on the tour and we want to ensure our fantastic performers have an audience. \nYou can also buy an Angel ticket. Any income from these tickets will go towards our community workshops relating to this project or be donated to St Mungo’s Homeless Charity. \nPlease note the walk is designed for adults only. (Older teenagers are welcome at their parent’s discretion and must be accompanied by an adult) \nThe tour lasts 1.5 hours and is considered “mostly flat”. We’d recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes and avoid high heels as Bristol’s streets can be a bit cobbly. \nThe tour goes ahead through most weather\, we draw the line at severe wet weather\, snow\, wind and ice. \nPlease leave your dog/pet at home for this tour. Guide and support dogs are very welcome. \n  \n The Bristol Comedy History Walk is being delivered as one of the activities under the City Centre and High Streets Recovery and Renewal programme\, funded by Bristol City Council and the West of England Combined Authority’s Love our High Streets project.
