SUMMARY:Level 3: Performing Improv - Telling Stories
DESCRIPTION:23rd February – 6th April| Mondays | 18:30 – 21:00\nStories and storytelling are a fundamental part of the human experience. We shape the world around us into narratives that we can understand\, forming deep emotional connections to the tales that resonate with us. A keen improviser can play on this narrative instinct to craft engaging stories on the fly and leave a delighted audience asking ‘How did they do that!?’ \nThis seven-week course combines techniques inspired by legendary improviser Keith Johnstone and Pixar Animation Studios to equip students with a formidable toolkit of storytelling techniques and skills. From confidence and communication skills to knowing how to make bold choices to keep the story alive (or deliver a surprising twist ending)\, you’ll train the narrative instincts that will grab and sustain your audience’s interest. \nWho is this course for? \n\nStudents who have completed Discovering Improv & Intro to Performing Improv and want to take the next step\nPerformers who have some improv experience and want to develop their story skills \nWriters who want to explore a more spontaneous approach\nAnyone who has learned improv elsewhere and wants to start learning with the BIT school\n\n\n \n \n \n \nClass Details\nThis course consists of 7 sessions that last for 2.5 hours each\, and will be taught by two of our experienced facilitators. Places are capped at 12. Like all our Performing Improv courses\, the 7th week includes a showcase performance to a supportive audience of friends\, family\, and fellow students.

SUMMARY:The Belltower
DESCRIPTION:Friday 30th January 2026 | 19:30\n(NEW: Bar open from 18:30)\nMiles from civilisation. Out on the fringes of the known world. Down below the deepest depths to way beyond the furthest horizon. Two men\, bound to a solemn duty\, unaware of the torturous toll about to be exacted upon them. By what exactly? Seemingly… nothing at all. \nPray\, delve with us into this unknown. Our two beleaguered performers inflict upon one another a harrowing tale of control\, isolation\, and madness. Your suggestions will take them to the remotest reaches of humanity\, pit them against one another\, and force them to finally confront themselves. \nThis entirely improvised psychological drama is loosely inspired by Robert Eggers’ 2019 film “The Lighthouse”. No prior knowledge of the movie is required or even encouraged to enjoy “The Belltower”. Contains dark themes. \nPerformed by James Cottle and Sam Addy. James also features in the post-apocalyptic “Tales From the Wasteland”\, while Sam directs and stars in the tragic political drama “Blame of Thrones”. Both perform in the David Lynch-inspired show “Red Room”. \nSUPPORT ACT:\nReal Positive Poles present “After Dusk: The Improvised Twilight Zone”\nYou walk into a play\, but none of the actors have learned their lines\, because there are none. This show hasn’t been written yet. A nightmare or a dream? Who’s to say? Up ahead\, there’s a sign. We take a turn through your imagination and arrive at your final destination: An improvised twist on The Twilight Zone! \nAccompanied by a live musician\, some of Bristol’s best improvisers create a brand-new episode of the classic science fiction show which inspired Black Mirror. Suitable for all levels of nerdiness and Twilight Zone knowledge\, including none! \n★★★★★ “A beautiful demonstration of everything that improvised performance can be” – The Reviews Hub \n“Quirky\, offbeat and hilarious” – Swindon Fringe Review \n“Absolutely perfect improv” – Starburst Magazine

SUMMARY:Lily Maryon: Princess Sparkles (WiP) | The Bristol Comedy Festival
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday 28th January | 18:00 – 19:00\n(Doors Open 17:30)\nCLICK TO BOOK NOW\nLily Maryon is a Bristol-based actor\, writer\, and character comedian\, and a member of the sketch collective Biscuit Barrel. A Sketch Off 2024 semi-finalist\, she performs regularly across the UK alternative comedy scene—appearing either as her chaotic\, alter ego Princess Sparkles or by joyfully making up jokes on the spot. \nStep into the not-so-glittery world of Princess Sparkles — a professional princess-for-hire who’s very available\, a teeny bit unstable\, and just that little bit too much. Appearing at five-year-old birthday parties somewhere near you! She’s flustered\, running late\, and it seems more than just her costume is coming apart at the seams… \nWant to feel like a child again? Ever worked with children? Ever wondered why people warn against it? \nPrepare to be transported straight back to childhood as Princess Sparkles throws you into a chaotically fun-filled birthday extravaganza — complete with games\,“magic\,” and stories gone wildly off-script. But beware: she is definitely not Elsa. And this party might not be suitable for children… or adults… or anyone\, really. \nAs her crown begins to slip\, so does her grip on reality — and the harder she tries to tell the perfect story\, the more the threads start to unravel. \nLily Maryon’s debut show is an unhinged hour of character comedy with a theatrical twist\, placing the audience in the role of the children as Sparkles fights to keep her reputation — and herself — intact. \nThis is one of many excellent shows you can see as part of The Bristol Comedy Festival 2026. Make sure to check out everything else on offer via their homepage. \nCLICK TO BOOK NOW\n______________________ \nThe Bristol Comedy Festival @ Bristol Improv Theatre\nWednesday\, 28th January 2026 \n\n18:00 – Lily Maryon – Princess Sparkles (WiP) – Tickets\n19:30 – Biscuit Barrel: The 69-Sketch Show – Tickets\n21:00 – Luke McQueen: Comedian’s Comedian – Tickets\n\nPlease arrive before the show’s start time\, as shows are on a strict schedule.  \n______________________

SUMMARY:Being a Difficult Woman*: Taster Workshop & Networking
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday 28th January | 2pm – 4pm\n(Arrival 1:45pm – Workshop 2pm – 3:30pm)\nDo you catch yourself apologising all the time? \n  \nDo you get scared to speak up in meetings\, at work or social situations? \n  \nAre you scared of being called\, or have you ever been called\, a ‘Difficult Woman?’ \n  \nUsing playing drama exercises and discussion\,  we will explore some of the tools which can be used to help us build a Difficult Woman toolkit. In this taster class\, we look at: \n  \n\nTaking up space\nAmplifying the voices of other woman and oppressed groups\nSaying no and respecting when others’ set their boundaries\n\n  \nRefreshments will be provided.  \n  \nIn the words of Audre Lorde: \n‘Our speaking out will irritate some people\, get us called bitchy or hypersensitive and disrupt some dinner parties. And then our speaking out will permit other women to speak\, until laws are changed and lives are saved and the world is altered forever. \nNext time\, ask: What’s the worst that will happen? Then push yourself a little further than you dare. Once you start to speak\, people will yell at you. They will interrupt you\, put you down and suggest it’s personal. And the world won’t end. \nAnd the speaking will get easier and easier. ‘\n\n*Please note: We are using an inclusive definition of ‘woman’ and ‘female’.\nThis event is for all cis and trans women\, as well as non-binary people who are comfortable in a space which centres the experience of women. \n\nPlaces are capped at 20. No drama or improv experience is needed but please note that we will be using some improv drama games as part of the learning.  \nAbout:\nImo Palmer is a theatre-maker\, improviser\, writer and teacher.
