SUMMARY:The Improv Gym
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday 11th October | 19:00 – 21:30\nThe Improv Gym will be returning in the New Year!\nImprove your improv!  \nIn your journey through improv\, it isn’t always about acquiring a new skill for your improviser’s toolkit or throwing yourself into a new and unfamiliar style of play. Sometimes you need to practise your existing skills\, polish up your play\, and get your reps in with some feedback/pointers and constructive critique from an expert. Enter the Improv Gym! \nPart rehearsal room\, part personal improv training\, the Improv Gym is a facilitated space where you can work on your skills and draw upon the expertise of our experienced teaching staff. Each session will be led by a Bristol Improv Theatre Instructor who will warm you up and set you going with exercises\, games\, and scenes that will work on the skill areas that you want to improve.  \nIf you have a particular skill or piece of work that you want to focus on\, let the instructor know and they’ll tailor your session accordingly. If you’re working on something with specialised equipment\, skills\, or knowledge – such as puppetry\, singing\, dance\, or any props/technical requirements – please email hello@improvtheatre.co.uk ahead of time so that we can prepare everything we’ll need to support you in the session. \nEach session lasts 2½ hours and is capped at 16 places. The bar will be open afterwards – why not stick around for a drink and a chat? \nThe Improv Gym is about improving the skills you want to work on – if you’re looking for something a bit more structured or just want to turn up and play\, why not try our Improv Drop-ins?

SUMMARY:Bristol Comedy History Walk Wrap Party!
DESCRIPTION:Saturday 23rd September | Doors 19:00 | Talk & Q&A begins 19:30\nCome and celebrate the success of the Bristol Comedy History Walk with us! \nNearly 600 people laughed along with the Bristol Comedy History Walk this summer\, our weekly walk created and written by Bristol’s very own Angie Belcher. To celebrate this popular and successful project\, we’ve invited Angie and two of the walk’s actors\, China B Fish and Dave Lovatt\, to come and talk to us about their experiences of creating and performing the walk. \nAngie will tell you about  the experience of writing comedy using historical events as inspiration\, building an engaging script for two people\, and working with a historian and script editor to ensure the stories were told well and with sensitivity. And China and Dave will give us an insight into the experience of performing live theatre with improvised elements in the middle of the day on busy summer Saturdays\, with audiences and events that we could never quite predict! You’ll also get the chance to relive some of the wonderful moments from the walk as our wonderful actors will be performing some of our favourite extracts from the script! \nThis event is FREE to celebrate the end of the project\, but please book a space so that we know what numbers to expect. A selection of light refreshments will be provided\, and the bar will be open.

SUMMARY:Improv Double Bill: Beansville & Spacecats
DESCRIPTION:Friday 22nd September | 20:00 (Doors 19:30)\nThe Bristol Improv Theatre presents a double bill of local improvised comedy from around Bristol. \nThe Workplace – Beansville \nIt’s another day at the office…the shop..the factory…or maybe even that weird place you once worked. You know the one. With all of the romances\, rivalries\, politics and performance issues you’d expect\, all made up on the spot in this improvised workplace comedy. \nBristol-based improvisers Beansville invite you to watch the pilot episode of a wholly improvised workplace comedy based on your suggestions. \nSpacecats \nSpacecats is a surreal episodic comedy show\, where you will see improvisers play anything from atoms to asteroids. Like brave astronomers\, like wise philosophers\, like kittens playing with a ball of yarn\, they delve into the great unanswered questions of the universe such as: \nHow do spoons really feel about each other? Why do seagulls hate tik tok? Can humans and coral reefs ever be friends? \nWe weave abstract stories and concepts into an overarching narrative\, based on your suggestions! Expect to see physical theatre\, contemporary dance\, off-the-cuff beat poetry and irreverent dream sequences in this kaleidoscope of improvised deep space exploration!

SUMMARY:Comediasians
DESCRIPTION:Friday 8th September | 20:00\n\nComediasians are thrilled to bring our ‘Comediasians & Friends’ night to Bristol! We’re the UK’s premier pan-Asian improv group\, and we’re on a mission to bring laughs from the diasporASIA to the UK comedy scene! We do a playful mix of short and long form improv and host a monthly night of Asian comedy in London. \nWe’ve also got an improv jam lined up for the second half of the evening! For part of the night\, anyone in the audience can come up on stage and perform with the Comediasians! We welcome anyone and everyone to the jam and especially encourage Asian-identifying people to give it a go. But if you’re not a fan of jumping up on stage\, you can just sit back and enjoy the show!

SUMMARY:BBFC Presents: A LIFE ON THE FARM (2023) + DIRECTOR Q&A
DESCRIPTION:Thursday 7th September | 20:00 (doors open 19:30)\nMeet Charles Carson\, a film-making farmer from Somerset… and he’s got something to show you! \nWhen filmmaker Oscar Harding’s grandfather passed away in the rural English county of Somerset\, his family inherited an extraordinary video tape – a feature-length home movie from neighbour Charles Carson. \nCharles was an inventor\, an outsider artist\, and a pioneer of death positivity\, to name just a few of the filmmaking farmer’s achievements. Charles’ life and work are examined by those who knew him best\, as well as a whole new generation of fans who have been inspired by the legacy he left behind. \nA Life On The Farm is an exploration and celebration of Charles Carson and his movies\, rescued from obscurity\, which present a moving and laugh-out-loud document of a vision of rural life in danger of being lost to history. \nThis screening will also featured a post-film Q&A with director Oscar Harding. \nA strange story from Somerset\, England about a filmmaking farmer and the inspiring legacy of his long-lost home movies. \nInvite your friends via the Facebook event page \n“While Harding tries to grab our attention at the onset with some of ‘Farm’s’ more lurid aspects\, his documentary shifts into a more compassionate view of someone truly special.” – Reeling Reviews \n“Goes from a budding backwoods horror picture to an uplifting story of an unlikely DIY guerrilla filmmaker.” – Screen Anarchy \n“A disturbing\, oddball documentary that is a beautiful celebration of an eccentric life well lived.” – Screen Zealots \nThis film and event is certified ’15’. \nPlease note that unfortunately this screening will NOT be subtitled. \nAll tickets: £6

SUMMARY:The Improv Gym
DESCRIPTION:Every Monday (from 24th July – 28th August) | 19:00 – 21:30\nImprove your improv!  \nIn your journey through improv\, it isn’t always about acquiring a new skill for your improviser’s toolkit or throwing yourself into a new and unfamiliar style of play.
