Whether you’ve been performing The Harold for a while or have only heard rumours about it\, these 6 x workshops will guide you through both foundations and advanced techniques\, all while boosting your confidence in a fun\, supportive\, and welcoming space.\n\nAnd when it comes to your instructor there’s no one better to learn The Harold from. Maria Peters trained directly with Charna Halpern\, the actual co-creator of the format. She spent months studying with instructors from iO and Second City Chicago\, UCB New York and brings over a decade of experience performing around the world.\n\nHere are some of the things you’ll walk away with from the course: \n\n\n\n\nGroup Mind – Practical techniques that lead to that elusive\, abstract\, and magical thing when an ensemble seems to be thinking with one mind.\n\n\nLong-Form Storytelling – We’re not talking about the classic narrative ‘hero’s journey’ or ‘once upon a time’ narrative structure here. You’ll learn the 3-stranded framework that almost all Television episodes are based upon. You’ll weave characters arcs and themes throughout. All while building satisfying endings to shows that feel like powerful scripted narratives.\n\n\nAdvanced Editing Skills – You’ll have a better sense of scenic timing as well as greater confidence in entering or ending scenes.\n\n\nAmerican Style Improv – The Harold is the foundation for a lot of long-form improv worldwide. Knowing it will help you wrap your head around loads of other formats as well as giving you the tools and inspiration to create your own.

SUMMARY:Level 3: Performing Improv - Creating Characters
DESCRIPTION:28th October – 9th December | Tuesdays | 18:30 – 21:00\nBe anyone (or anything) you want to be – in improv\, the possibilities are limitless! But where to start? When you’re making spontaneous creative choices and responding on-the-fly\, it can be difficult to play a character who feels different from yourself. There’s often so much going on that you hardly have room to think about being someone else. \nThis seven-week course introduces the tools\, techniques\, and tricks used to create characters on-the-spot. You’ll explore how characters can emerge and grow through physicality\, status\, and the relationships between characters – building your confidence in stepping into another person’s shoes when you perform.\n \nWho is this course for? \n\nStudents who have completed Discovering Improv & Intro to Performing Improv and want to take the next step\nPerformers who have some improv experience and want to develop their improvised characterisation skills \nAnyone who has learned improv elsewhere and wants to start learning with the BIT school\n\n\n      \n        \n      \n    \nCLASS DETAILS\nThis course consists of 7 sessions that last for 2.5 hours each\, and will be taught by an experienced facilitator. Places are capped at 12. Like all our Performing Improv courses\, the 7th week includes a showcase performance to a supportive audience of friends\, family\, and fellow students.

DESCRIPTION:Thursday 27th November | 19:30\nFriday 28th November | 19:30\nSaturday 29th November | 19:30\n(Doors open 19:00)\n  \nThe Unscripted Players present two brand new improvised productions in one show! \n___________ \nThis November\, join us for… \n‘G-O-D-S’ directed by Paul Dwyer\nA classic flat-share sitcom – where the roommates just happen to be minor deities from historic and classical pantheons. \n‘I Know What I Saw’ directed by Scott Wilson\nA paranormal investigation where a believer and a sceptic review the evidence for an audience member’s supernatural experience. The cast act out their different versions so that we can make up our own minds. \n___________ \nCreated with the support of the Bristol Improv Theatre\, these two shows were developed from pitches made in August and are directed and performed by members of the Unscripted Players\, the Bristol Improv Theatre’s own amateur improv company. \n  \nThe Bristol Improv Theatre runs the Unscripted Players Big Shows scheme three times a year to spark new ideas and nurture new talent.
