The BIT does its best to ensure that all the information on its website is current and accurate. However, mistakes can occur, so we would encourage anyone who may be thinking of making a special trip based on information displayed on the website to confirm that the information is correct. Tickets, Online Purchases & General Website Usage


In these terms and conditions the following words shall have the meanings set out below:

"Confirmation" means the confirmation email sent to you by the BIT under clause 4.2.3 acknowledging your booking and setting out the details of your booking.

"Contract" means any contract for the purchase of Tickets made between you and the BIT (acting as agent for the relevant Third Party in those cases where a Third Party Event is the subject of the Ticket).

"BIT" means The Bristol Improv Theatre Limited whose registered and principal trading address is 50 Saint Paul's Road, Bristol BS8 1LP. Registered in England company number 08856944.

"Online Booking Form" means the series of pages for the booking of Tickets set out on the BIT's website.

"Third Party" means a party other than you and the BIT.

"Third Party Event" means an event organised by a Third Party in respect of which the BIT is acting as ticketing agent only.

"Ticket" means any ticket, physical or electronic, for attending:

i. a live, staged performance of a theatrical, musical, or operatic nature in any one of the BIT's auditoria;
ii. backstage tours;
iii. a Third Party Event
iv. a reserved place on a course or elective workshop

offered for sale by the BIT or its authorised agents and any reference in these terms and conditions to a 'performance' shall include any of these.


2.1. These terms and conditions relate to the purchase and supply of Tickets and the use of the BIT's website generally. Please read these terms and conditions carefully before purchasing any Tickets as by doing so, you accept that these terms and conditions will govern all Contracts.

2.2. Nothing in these terms and conditions is intended to affect your statutory rights.


3.1. If you make a group booking, you accept these terms and conditions on behalf of all members of the group and are responsible for all payments due from the party.

3.2. Only persons who are at least 18 years of age are permitted to book Tickets. By booking Tickets you warrant to the BIT that you comply with this requirement.

3.3. The BIT reserves the right to place restrictions on:

3.3.1. the volume of any Tickets ordered; and

3.3.2. the number of places booked for Third Party Events.

In addition, the BIT shall be entitled to terminate Ticket sales for a performance or a Third Party Event at such time as it shall think fit (or as directed by any relevant Third Party).

3.4. It is your responsibility to check that any Tickets issued to you are accurate.

3.5. Any purchase of Tickets is only valid when processed by the BIT or an agent authorised by the BIT.

3.6. Your Tickets may not be transferred or resold for commercial purposes or at a premium. If a Ticket is transferred or resold in breach of this condition, the bearer of the Ticket or the person claiming the right to attend the event will be refused admission to the performance or event and any membership(s) you may have with the BIT will be terminated.

3.7. The BIT (or the relevant Third Party) shall be entitled to make changes as to speakers, performers, running times and such other matters as it thinks fit in the case of any event, including Third Party Events.

3.8. By purchasing a Ticket, you shall be deemed to consent to your being filmed where the event or performance is being filmed.

3.9. The BIT (or the relevant Third Party) reserves the right to ask for proof of eligibility for concessions at the access points for the event or performance.


4.1. The website improvtheatre.net is owned and operated by the BIT.

4.2. If you choose to purchase Tickets or Learning Events over the BIT's website, your Contract will be concluded as follows:

4.2.1. completion and submission of the Online Booking Form shall constitute an offer by you to purchase Tickets subject to these terms and conditions. You can correct any mistakes you make when filling out the Online Booking Form at any point before submitting it;

4.2.2. once you submit the Online Booking Form, the BIT will check that you have completed all parts of the Online Booking Form and confirm that you have sufficient funds to cover the total cost of the booking. Upon confirmation of these details, the BIT will then charge your credit or debit card accordingly. This in itself does not constitute acceptance of your offer;

4.2.3. once payment has been taken, an on-screen confirmation will be displayed and the BIT will send you a Confirmation as soon as possible. This Confirmation shall constitute the BIT's acceptance of your booking. A Contract will be formed once you have received the Confirmation;

4.2.4. if the BIT receives a prompt notification that the Confirmation was not delivered successfully, then the BIT will use reasonable endeavours to notify you of its acceptance and the details of your booking by other means.

4.3. The only language available for the conclusion of a Contract online is English.

4.4. Details of all Contracts concluded online (including the method of payment but not the card details) will be kept on file by us and can be provided to you upon request.

4.5. You are entirely responsible for entering your details correctly on the Online Booking Form. By submitting an Online Booking Form you warrant to the BIT that all details supplied by you are true and accurate.


5.1. The price (including all taxes where relevant) of all Tickets are specified on the BIT website. These details are based on the best available information to the BIT and the BIT is not obliged to conclude any contract on these terms.

5.2. For bookings made online over the BIT's website, the BIT accepts payment through it's PayPal payment gateway.


6.1. Subject to clauses 6.2 and 6.3 the BIT will only refund your Tickets after purchase if the request is made in good time for the BIT to process the refund and offer the Tickets for resale.

6.1.1. Good time for refunds is defined to be any time more than 5 days prior to the the start of the performance for courses and elective workshops, and any time more than 48 hours prior to the start of the performance in all other cases.

6.2. Where the BIT or the relevant Third Party is unable to perform a Contract on the date(s) agreed because the performance, course or elective workshop in question is no longer available or viable, or is abandoned when less than half the performance has taken place, the BIT will refund to you the face value of the Tickets purchased (excluding any delivery charges).

6.3. Where a performance, course or elective workshop has been cancelled or abandoned when more than half of the performance has taken place the BIT may, in its discretion (and provided any relevant Third Party agrees), refund to you the face value of the Tickets purchased (excluding any delivery charges).

6.4. BIT will issue a refund to you using the same method of payment that you used to purchase the Tickets.


All Tickets are sold subject to the BIT's right to make any alterations in the cast or programme details advertised on the BIT's website or other appropriate location.


8.1. Subject to clause 8.3 below, the BIT (or any relevant Third Party) will only be liable to you for direct and foreseeable losses arising as a result of:

8.1.1. a breach of these terms and conditions; or

8.1.2. any negligent act arising under or in connection with the Contract.

8.2. The BIT's (or the relevant third Party's) total liability under clause 8.1 above shall be limited to the total face value of the Tickets.

8.3. Nothing in this clause 8 excludes or limits liability for death, personal injury or fraud.

8.4. The BIT (or any relevant Third Party) will not be liable in any way if it is prevented from performing its obligations under or arising from any Contract due to any factors which are beyond its reasonable control. Without limiting the foregoing, the following shall be regarded as causes beyond its reasonable control:

8.4.1. acts of god, which include earthquakes, cyclones, storms, flooding, fire, disease, fog, snow and angry frost giants;

8.4.2. force majeure which includes war, accidents, acts of public enemies, strikes, embargoes, perils of the air, local disputes and civil commotions;

8.4.3. power failure and failure of sound or lighting equipment.

8.5. The BIT will not be liable for any losses incurred by you in connection with your use of the BIT's website, for any delay in using or your inability to use the website, for any information or Tickets obtained through the website or for any material posted to the website by the BIT or by users of the website.


9.1. The BIT's website is for your own personal and non-commercial use. You may not modify, copy, distribute, transmit, display, perform, reproduce, publish, license, create derivative works from, transfer or sell any information obtained from the BIT's website.

9.2. The contents of the BIT's website, including any software, are protected by intellectual property rights and other related rights. No part of the BIT's website may be reproduced in any form (electronically or otherwise) without the prior consent of the BIT, other than temporarily in the course of using the BIT's booking service or as permitted by law.

9.3. You are not permitted to link to or use all or any part of the BIT's website for any purpose which is unlawful, defamatory, harmful, obscene or objectionable.

9.4. You are not permitted to transmit anything which, in the BIT's opinion, harms the BIT's business or in any way offends other users or persons.

9.5. You are not permitted to alter the BIT's website in any way.

9.6. You must not post onto or transmit to the BIT's website any material containing software viruses or files which may damage or disrupt the good working order of computer or telecommunications equipment.

9.7. The BIT reserves the right to refuse to post onto or remove anything from its website which, in the BIT's opinion, is objectionable or does not comply with these terms and conditions. The BIT shall not in any way be liable for such actions.

9.8. The BIT may record, preserve, trace and disclose anything which has been transmitted to, from or via the BIT's website where required by law or where the BIT is acting in good faith.

9.9. If you create, or are provided with, a username, password or any other piece of information as part of the BIT's security procedures, you must treat this information as confidential. In particular, you must not disclose this information to any third party.


The BIT's website may contain hyperlinks to websites operated by parties other than the BIT. The operation of such websites is outside the BIT's control and you proceed at your own risk. The BIT does not endorse or sponsor and is not liable for the products, services or content you access through any linked site.

All the terms of any Contract are contained or are referred to within these terms and conditions.


If any part of these terms and conditions is held to be unenforceable this will not affect the enforceability of the remaining provisions.


14.1. The BIT (or the relevant Third Party) reserves the right to refuse admission and may request any Ticket holders to leave (taking any such appropriate action which may be necessary to enforce this right) before or during performances if it considers it to be necessary or desirable to do so. The BIT (or the relevant Third Party) may also, on certain occasions, have to conduct security searches to ensure the safety of its patrons.

14.2. Latecomers will be asked to wait until a suitable break in the performance before being admitted to the auditorium or other venue. The BIT reserves the right to deny entry to any latecomers, if it deems that such late entry to the auditorium would be a disruption to the performance or other event.

14.3. Mobile phones and other electronic equipment must be switched off (not silenced) before entering the auditorium.

14.4. To be admitted you must be in possession of a valid Ticket.

14.5. Unless a performance is expressly stated to permit entry to children under the age of four, children under the age of four are not permitted to enter the auditoriums but are welcome in the foyers. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

14.6. Please note that strobe lighting, smoke effects, stage pyrotechnics and loud sound effects are sometimes used in productions.

14.7. The BIT and any authorised third parties may carry out general filming and sound recording in or about the venue. By purchasing Tickets, you consent to you and your party being included in and to the commercial exploitation of such films and recordings without payment.

14.7. With the exception of those shows denoted in programmes and listings as "family", due to the nature of improvised theatre, the BIT cannot guarantee the age suitability of any of its shows. Parents and guardians are therefore required to exercise their own judgement as to whether a particular show is suitable for their child.


Nothing contained in any Contract is intended to be enforceable pursuant to the Contracts (Rights of Third Parties) Act 1999 by any third party.


These terms and conditions and any Contract concluded incorporating these terms and conditions shall be governed by English law and all disputes shall be submitted to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts.

Venue Hire


1.1. A Venue Hire Form for hiring the BIT event spaces is available by contacting the following email: hello@improvtheatre.co.uk .

1.2. Information submitted to the Bristol Improv Theatre via our Venue Hire Form will be used by the BIT to process your hire request. This may include passing information to relevant third parties, however this will only be done where it is necessary to complete your hire request (e.g. the booking of caterers or additional equipment).

1.3. The information submitted on the Venue Hire Form must be true, accurate and complete to the best of the Hirer's knowledge. Failure to provide accurate or incomplete information may lead to additional fees being added to the Hirer's invoice, or the cancellation of the hire agreement without refund.


2.1. Upon submission of a completed and signed Event Hire Form, an invoice will be issued to the Hirer's contact email address.

2.2. All hire fees must be paid in advance within 14 days of submitting your hire agreement to the Bristol Improv Theatre. If you have not received an invoice within 7 days of submission, please contact hello@improvtheatre.co.uk.

2.3. Payment of hire fees must be made via BACS to the account indicated on the invoice. The BIT will not accept hire fees in cheque, money order or cash.


3.1. Where a Box Office Service has been requested, payment of Box Office Receipts (monies taken on behalf of Hirers by the Bristol Improv Theatre Box Office), less any agreed deductions, will be made to a designated UK bank account within 21 days of invoice by the Hirer.

3.2. Upon cancellation of any hire agreement, hire fees will be returned subject to the following deductions:
– 10% deduction if cancellation is made more than 28 days prior to event
– 50% deduction is cancellation is made 28-14 days prior to event
– 100% deduction if cancellation is made less than 14 days prior to event

3.3. Upon confirmation of the details of the Hirer's event, any subsequent significant changes to the event's time and date may incur additional charges, which will be added by the BIT to the invoice issued to the Hirer.

3.3.1. Significant changes to the time and date of an event are defined to be any changes such that no portion of the event will overlap with the original times and dates of the event.

3.3.2. Additional charges will be incurred as a percentage of the total invoice, depending on when the Hirer requests the alteration, as follows:
– 10% within 14 days of the start of the event
– 20% within 7 days of the start of the event
– 50% within 48 hours of the start of the event.

3.3.3. Any alteration request will be subject to the availability of the BIT's spaces on the requested dates and times. Should the requested alteration not be possible, if the Hirer no longer wishes to keep the original dates and times, the hire agreement shall instead be cancelled and therefore subject to clause 3.2. above.

3.4. The Bristol Improv Theatre reserves the right to cancel any and all hire agreements with a minimum 28 days notice period (the hirer's full hire fee will be returned).


4.1. It is the Hirer's responsibility to ensure that the hire space is suitable for any proposed events. The BIT and its representatives reserve the right to cancel, without warning or refund of hire fees, any event, either proposed or ongoing that they judge a risk to or material violation of the BIT's terms and conditions, venue policy, premises licensing law, fire and occupancy obligations, local governmental planning or building control law, health and safety or environmental control conditions or that otherwise in any way obstructs the BIT's ability to operate without risk to its staff, patrons, property or equipment. Please ensure that you have discussed the details of your proposed event with BIT representative BEFORE booking your event.

4.2 Hirers wishing to hire the Bristol Improv Theatre's event spaces are required to inform the BIT in advance of any requirements for additional technical equipment and storage requirements. Where storage is provided, all property stored at the BIT is done so at the hirer's own risk.

4.3. The Hirer agrees that they have arranged sufficient and suitable insurance cover for their event. Proof of insurance cover may be requested by the BIT at any time.

4.4. The Hirer agrees not to diminish, subvert, or bring into disrepute the brand or good name of the Bristol Improv Theatre.

4.5. The Hirer agrees to leave the hired event spaces in the same condition they were hired in. This includes the repair and replacement of any damaged equipment or building assets, the cleaning or replacement of any spoiled soft furnishings and the removal of all rubbish, food waste, sets, props, costumes, technical equipment brought to the theatre by the company. Any and all property left on BIT premises after the hire period has ended will be disposed of.

4.6 The Hirer agrees to accept full liability for any damages, costs or loss of earnings incurred by the BIT arising from any action of the hirer during the agreed hire period, including any legal cost arising from disputes pertaining to this agreement.


5.1 Where technical equipment is provided, the Bristol Improv Theatre cannot be held liable for any loss or damages, including cancellation of shows or destruction of property, resulting from:

5.1.1. Use of equipment that contravenes the prior instruction of the on-duty technician, stage-manager or other technical staff.

5.1.2. Failure of the hirer to adhere to safety briefings and other clear instructions from Bristol Improv Theatre management.

5.1.3. Failures of technical equipment arising from circumstances outside of the Bristol Improv Theatre's control.


6.1 Hirers agree that the Bristol Improv Theatre and its staff may take photographs of the Hirer, their audiences and, where applicable, their associated acts, with Bish the Bear, the BIT's mascot. These images are the property of the Bristol Improv Theatre and will be used for the theatre's own promotional material only.

6.2 Hirers agree that the Bristol Improv Theatre may film the company the hirer, their audiences and, where applicable, their associated acts. That this filming shall comprise short video clips only. That these videos are the property of the Bristol Improv Theatre and will be used for the theatre's own promotional material only.

6.3. Hirers agree that the BIT may distribute publicity materials in the bar area during the hire period.


These terms and conditions and any hire agreement concluded incorporating these terms and conditions shall be governed by English law and all disputes shall be submitted to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts.

BIT Privacy Policy

Statement of Policy

1. The Bristol Improv Theatre recognises that we live in a society where data, its use, and its transfer is of huge and increasing importance.

2. The Bristol Improv Theatre believes that all persons should have the right to control the distribution and use of their own personal data, and is committed to upholding this right through its actions as a business.

3. The Bristol Improv Theatre is committed to taking the minimum amount of personal data necessary to provide goods and services, and to retaining said personal data for the minimum length of time necessary to accomplish the purpose for which it was obtained.

4. This policy will influence and affect every aspect of activities carried out at the Bristol Improv Theatre i.e. promotional work, outreach work, productions and other functions linked to the Bristol Improv Theatre, as determined by the directors.

5. The BIT are committed to protecting your privacy. We have provided this privacy policy to lay out the information concerning your personal data and how we use it.

What kinds of data are collected, and how are they used?

1. Email addresses and names are collected by the Bristol Improv Theatre as part of its online box office system. These data are used to verify online purchases via email confirmation, e-tickets, and in person on the door of events. The BIT may also ask you to provide your name and email address for the purposes of coordinating and communicating details regarding BIT events that you are attending. The BIT will not pass or sell this information to any third parties.

2. Email addresses and names are collected by the Bristol Improv Theatre at the venue through feedback cards and email list signup forms. This data is used for online marketing (to understand our audiences better) and communications (the periodical BIT newsletter).

3. Additional information provided on feedback cards (such as comments and feedback) is anonymously used to improve the BIT's programme and services.

4. No card, bank or other financial details are taken by the BIT for online ticket sales via our website. All financial data, relating to sales of tickets, classes, memberships and other products via our websites are processed by PayPal and governed by their policies. You may therefore wish to also read the PayPal privacy policy.

5. Credit/debit card details are collected by the Bristol Improv Theatre in the course of financial transactions via our physical box office and bar systems. These data are transferred securely to iZettle and not stored by the BIT. iZettle handle card transactions for the Bristol Improv Theatre. Records are kept, via iZettle systems, for the purposes of issuing refunds and problem resolution. You may therefore wish to read the iZettle privacy policy.

Data Control

2. If you would like to know what data the Bristol Improv Theatre has of yours, or if you would like the Bristol Improv Theatre to delete its records of any of your personal data, you may write to the above address or contact us via email at hello@improvtheatre.co.uk or call us on 07936 617158 and we will be happy to help you. Please be aware that removal of your data may result in you being unable to access BIT services and products (such as events or classes).

3. Our standard response time for data enquiry is 72 hours.

4. The BIT's policy is for maximum transparency when it comes to your personal data and its security. We therefore take every precaution to safeguard your personal data and while we are confident that the risks to you are minimal, we promise to fully declare any data breach that may affect personal data that we hold.


Cookies are small pieces of information that are stored by your browser on your computer's hard drive. They make it possible for us to provide our online ticketing service and track visitor statistics, such as returning visitors. You can usually modify your browser to prevent this happening. The information collected in this way can be used to identify you unless you modify your browser settings.

We use Google Analytics to analyse the use of our website. Google Analytics generates statistical and other information about website use by means of cookies, which are stored on users' computers.
