In this 7 week course, we will learn how to tell a satisfying shared story on stage through the medium of improvised narrative. Using Keith Johnstone inspired exercises and techniques, we’ll delve into constructing story arcs and engaging in supportive ensemble work, as well as exploring a number of tools to shake up and inspire participants’ scenework skills.
Suitable for those looking to develop their storytelling, improvised narrative and scene work skills.
Who is this course for?
- Anyone who has completed the Performing L1 Carousel of courses and wants to continue their journey with the Bristol Improv Theatre School
- Anyone who has 1-2 years experience of improvisation and wants to learn how to hone their storytelling skills.
- Anyone who has started learning improv elsewhere and wants to join the Bristol Improv Theatre School to take their improv to the next level.
This course is part of our Level 2 Performing programme, which also includes ‘Making a Show’’ and ‘Approaches to Scenework’. Completion of the full carousel of Level 1 is recommended prior to taking this course.
This is a 7-week course, capped at 12 participants, plus up to 2 instructors (14 in total).

About the Instructor
Imogen Palmer is the Theatre School Manager and the Artistic Director of The Delight Collective, creator of IMOGENÉ, The Bish Bosh Bash and International Women’s Day special ‘If These Walls Could Talk’. She began teaching improvisation whilst training full-time at the award-winning Howard Fine Acting Studio in Melbourne and performing with Impro Melbourne. She reguarly tops up her training with improvisation and clown masters including Patti Stiles (Loose Moose Theatre), Deanna Fleysher (Butt Kapinsky), Jill Bernard (HUGE Theatre), the Showstoppers and Jason Shotts (IO Chicago).
