Live Devised Theatre with Lucy Fennell

Live Devised Theatre with Lucy Fennell

Monday 26 Oct – Monday 30 Nov
19:00-20:30, ZOOM

Join Lucy (creator of ‘Is it Improvised, does it matter?’ and ‘Dirty Picnic Club’) for this illuminating leap into the world of ‘live devised’ .

Embrace your inner playwright and direct yourself as you craft improvised theatre using monologue, direct address, subtext and other theatrical techniques.

Over six weeks, we will explore the possibilities of the Zoom frame; multiple camera angles, props, costume and multimedia. How does this virtual space inspire us to create dramatic work in the moment?

Together, we’ll collaborate to make work that you’ll wish you could see again.

Welcome to live devising.

Some improvisation experience is recommended as there will be personalised feedback and coaching.

Every session will include the chance to chat and connect with the other members of the group following the class. This course is capped at ten places.

Lucy is an improviser, director, teacher and the mischievous creator of The Dirty Picnic Club; a social experiment meets improvised theatre show. She is a founding member of Impromptu Shakespeare and as well as improvisation, Lucy has trained in Lecoq, clowning and bouffon. She is a qualified teacher and is currently a trainee intimacy director with Intimacy for Stage and Screen. (ISS)

Lucy is interested in cultivating authentic, candid improvised performance and is fascinated by the art form’s capacity to jolt and surprise both audience and improviser. She is committed to creating a nurturing, open space for participants to discover, learn and be inspired.

The Bristol Improv Theatre was founded in 2012 by a group of improvised performers, artists and theatre-makers. Our mission is to be an institution of spontaneous, collaborative, and creative theatre, a resource for ambitious artists and audiences, and a home for all those whom improvised work touches. In 2017, the BIT relaunched its temporary venue on St. Paul’s Road, Clifton as a full-time theatre space. Our newly refurbished, 100-seat, multi-space venue is the first permanently established theatre for improvised performance in the UK. You can interact with and watch improvised theatre and comedy shows streamed live from our online Twitch Channel and learn improvisation both online and in person under Government guidelines.
