Handling Sensitive Issues in Improv with Imogen Palmer

Sunday 2nd May

10:00 – 12:30 GMT

Improv is one of the most accessible art forms in the world, and can be hugely liberating.

However, the yes-and/ acceptance philosophy can lead to toxic environments where participants’ needs or voices are being ignored.

How can we practice safeguarding as improv facilitators & practitioners?

How can we create a supported environment for our students and professional companies to thrive?

When sensitive issues arise in the work, how can we facilitate the  conversations needed to address those instances?

This class will explore these questions with a focus on practical tools to empower and enable them to discuss sensitive issues (moments where instances of ‘isms’ occur, moments where physical or emotional boundaries are tested) when they arise in the moment.

We will use role play and discussion to explore and practice these tools, equipping participants with experience they can bring to the rehearsal or class room.
