Brand New Courses Announced

In today’s blog, our new Theatre School manager Imogen Palmer gives us a brief overview of our new courses and our recommended pathway through them …

It’s the time of year for new things- resolutions, goals and fresh starts.

Here at The Bristol Improv Theatre we are very excited to announce the expansion of our theatre school with a range of new courses on offer.

In addition to the hugely popular ‘Discovering’ course and our carousel of performance skills, we are introducing Level 2 tier courses for those who have been practicing improv for a couple of years and are looking to take their narrative and scene work skills to the next level.

Any course can be taken in any order at the BIT School, but we recommend the following pathway:

  1. Discovering Improv: our hugely popular introductory course is open to anyone interested in developing their confidence, creativity and/or spontaneity. It’s also a brilliant course for people have been improvising for a while and are looking to refresh their love for the art form.
  2. Intro to Performing: a fun-focused laughter-filled course provides an excellent gateway for those new to performing improv in front of an audience or new to the BIT School.
  3. Performing Improv Level 1: a carousel of courses offered building students’ performance skills through a different lens each time.  They can be completed in any order and culminate in a showcase for friends and family at the end. These courses include:

Telling Stories, Creating Characters and Singing Songs
  4. Performing Improv Level 2: this next programme of three 7-week courses offer a deeper insight into performing improv on stage. They include:

Approaches to Scenework, Exploring Narrative and Making Musicals.

In addition to the courses above, we also have two drop-ins open to all abilities:

The Weekly Monday night Improv drop-in

The monthly women and non-binary identities drop-in

We also host specialised courses and visiting teachers, including ‘Improv to Stand-up’ with Chris Head and ‘Advanced Scenework’ with Imogen Palmer.
