In today’s blog, we had a quick chat to Rosalind Beeson about the show she is directing for the Unscripted Players, Level Up. We talked about the show, its future and who she would be if she was a video game characters.
1. Tell us a bit about the show, how did it form?
A while ago, Scott Wilson and I were coming up with ideas for improv shows on a road trip and I said I’d love to do an improvised videogame; the show pretty much grew out of that. At the time I’d just finished playing a game called Life is Strange and was drawn in by all the choices you make as the story unfolds, I really wanted my structure to reflect those possibilities so the form was heavily influenced by that game and the classic videogame Zelda.
2. Who is in the cast?
- Vicky Cansfield
- Ed Prior
- Conor Bailey
- Ollie Shiels
- Jethro Dix
3. If you could be any video game character, who would you be?
I would be Sheik (Zelda’s all-action alter-ego in Ocarina of time), such a badass and nothing like me!
4. Some previous UP shows have carried on after the end of their run, do you think Level Up will continue past this weekend in some form?
I would love to see it continue as it’s such a fun show. However, it is a pretty tech heavy show so it’ll be a challenge and quite time consuming so it might just be a limited run, unless the cast are keen!
5. What are you most looking forward to doing on the night?
I cannot wait to see what my cast comes up with, so far they’ve surprised me every rehearsal and always with good things. I’m really excited to see how they react and respond to the audience.
Level Up is part of the Unscripted Players Big November Show this weekend. The shows are on Friday at 8pm and on Saturday at 2pm and 8pm. Tickets are £10 / £5 for UP members and are available here
