After a string of successful shows across town at The Wardrobe Theatre, The BIT's flagship musical show returns to its home this Friday with its typical mix of songs, characters, dance-moves and of course improv! We spoke to cast member Beth Kerridge about the show in this short but sweet interview.
Tell us a bit more about your company, when and how did you form?
I actually wasn't there at the formation of the company but asked to join a couple of months later. I was very lucky! I was also very nervous when I started, even though I had done a little bit of musical improv before with Pick Your Own Panto, but everyone in the company was welcoming and really helped me feel at ease. Since then, I haven't looked back!
Who are your improv, music and comedy idols?
My improv idols are many, including great names like Susan Harrison, Patti Stiles, Katy Schutte, Amy Cooke-Hodgson, Rachel Paris, Ruth Bratt and Stephen Davidson. They're all awesome. A lot of these people are also comedy icons but I greatly admire the comedic writing and performance of Victoria Wood and Dawn French. Music idols include Eva Cassidy, Joni Mitchell and Annie Lennox.
What's your favourite type of improv to perform?
I enjoy most improv forms, but I particularly like performing genre-based narrative longform. I'm sometimes partial to Chicago-style longform and relationship-based loose longform scenes.
What are you most looking forward to on the night?
What we always do, create an all-new musical on the spot for the pure enjoyment of our lovely audiences!
This Is Your Musical is on Friday 22nd March, 8pm. Doors and bar open from 7.15pm. Tickets are £7 and can be bought HERE.
